Hi all, wondering WAMC for MD or DO admissions, and if I should focus on only applying to DO. Also considering MD/PhD with my extensive research experience, but again not sure if my app will be DOA with my horrible undergrad resume.
  1. cGPA: 3.383 sGPA: 3.206 postbacc GPA: 3.685 (all graduate level science courses)
    1. Red flags in undergrad
      1. 2 withdrawals (calc 1 and orgo 2), 3 C's (chem 1, calc 1, and biochem), 2 C+'s (orgo 2 and physics 2), 1 Pass (school gave option to students to choose between letter grade or a P/F grade during spring 2020 b/c covid)
  2. MCAT: 510
    1. c/p 127
    2. CARS 128
    3. bio/biochem 128
    4. psych/soc 127
  3. Maryland resident
  4. White/asian
  5. out of state public institution, biology major (top 10 public, not sure if this makes a difference though)
  6. Clinical experience
    1. ~1280 hours working full time
  7. Research experience and productivity
    1. ~4640 hours working full time at a lab in at a T5 school
    2. 1 mid author (IF 10+)
    3. 1 first author (IF 14+)
    4. one poster presentation at said T5 school
  8. Shadowing experience
    1. ~200 hours shadowing my PI (pathology)
    2. ~6 hours shadowing pediatric oncologist (not sure if this is even enough time to put down on my app)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering
    1. none
  10. Other extracurricular activities
    1. nothing of note during undergrad. Post undergrad was when I worked full time in the clinic and research, and did my shadowing
  11. Relevant honors or awards
    1. none
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important
    1. nada
I didn't take undergrad seriously and as a result had terrible grades and nothing I would even feel confident putting in my application in terms of ECs. After graduating I knew I had my work cut out for me if I ever wanted to make it to med school, so I started working full time in a clinic (1 year) and then transitioned into research (3 years). After 4 years of this, I knew my GPA was the major hurdle left and completed a postbacc program which I just finished. Looking for some advice. Thanks!
