Hi there,

My AACOMAS application has been verified, and my academic standing is not as strong as I'd hoped (cGPA 2.88 & sGPA 3.09 overall credits: at least 120). I'm considering a post-back, SMS, or MS program in 2025 and would greatly value your advice. I'm particularly interested in programs near Minnesota and the East Coast, where I have family, and any information on UNE COM, NYITCOM, TouroCOM-Harlem, TouroCOM-Middletown, LECOM-Elmira, LECOM-Erie, MSUCOM, CCOM or DUQCOM MS-DO programs.

I forgot to add the MCAT; I took it once and will retake it this August.

Thank you for your help.
Best,

I strongly suggest that you do a special Masters program, or a do-it-yourself post back. Read my guide to reinvention for pre-meds.

You're not competitive now, and no medical school will be doing you any favors by accepting you when your academic record shows that you're not ready for medical school.

I would also recommend that you postpone your MCAT until you are comfortably scoring 505+ on your new practice exams. With your current score, you probably have some knowledge gaps.

I would also suggest a SMP, especially if they have a strong record mentoring URMs especially Black males. And offers MCAT help.

If you were going to apply, look.at HBCU schools. But getting a stronger foundation would serve you much better.

Thank you all for your suggestions. What is the difference between an SMP linkage and an MS linkage? Do I have to pick which classes to take for my MS (I would prefer a more structured program with an academic adviser)? Is there an Excel document for MD-SMPs, which I know is for DOs (here: ?
