Hey all. I had done a "What are my chances?" thread a couple months ago, without knowing my MCAT scores. I just received my scores, so I'd like to hear your thoughts once again. I submitted my primary AMCAS in June, and I'm working on secondaries right now.
-Florida resident, not URM.
-Graduated from UF (Florida) this past May with a degree in Microbiology and Cell Science and a minor in Spanish.
-AMCAS verified GPAs: cGPA: 3.74, sGPA: 3.60
-Significant reasons for low sGPA: C+ in Chem 2, Cs in Orgo 2 and Physics 2 (all in my first two years)
Upward trend ever since Junior year, with mostly straight As in upper-level science courses.
MCAT: 30N (PS 8, BS 11, VR 11). I know, that PS score makes me cry. Should I retake?
Research: About 2.5 years, working on DNA lesion repair systems. Received a research stipend via UF's USP Undergrad Research program. Presented at UF research symposium, hoping to be published in a UF undergraduate research journal.
Volunteer:
-About 150 hours including hospital volunteering and volunteering through various clubs and organizations at UF
-Have worked as a clerk/occasional inpatient services assistant at a doctor's office over one summer
Shadowing: combined, around 120 hours, including:
-Medical Mission Trip in Sophomore year that yielded around 65 hours of shadowing at a hospital in Quito, Ecuador (methinks the things I observed there would make for great interview topics of conversation)
-Cardiothoracic surgeon and trauma surgeons in the US account for the rest
LORs: I can count on strong Letters, especially from my research mentor and two of my science professors
Plans during "gap" year: I'm looking into working in a clinical setting. Working as an EMSS scribe looks appealing (got an interview for it this week). I'll also be concurrently shadowing additional doctors in Orlando and volunteering at homeless shelters, time permitting.
So far, I've applied to all Florida MD schools, and 15 OOS MD schools. Given my disappointing MCAT score, I'm thinking I'll apply to a few DO schools now.
So guys, what're my chances, especially UF, FSU, UMiami and USF? I'd also like to hear your thoughts on my chances at Rosalind Franklin, MSU, EVMS, Albany, Drexel and GW, if possible.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up given my stats, but I still want to hear realistic views about my chances.
Thanks in advance!
