Hello Mr. smile12,

I was talking to the dentist I recently started shadowing, and she suggested I consider some different paths before dental school—like getting into lab work, doing a business-related master’s instead of something science, spending a year traveling to teach English, or volunteering in a country with limited access to care. She said a master’s can be a great move, but recommended focusing on something in business. I feel like doing a biomedical sciences masters is my safest bet. What do you think?
don't listen to this dds
you need to show adcoms you can handle a advanced science heavy courseload...

If any of the dental schools that interviewed and rejected you give feedback sessions, schedule one as soon as possible. At this point, I suspect any path to dental school must go through a special master's program, ideally with a linkage agreement. Contact Barry University's SMP (in Florida), Ohio State DentPath, and Touro/NYMC Dental Linker (though you aren't eligible unless the Touro Dental adcom refers you), and see what each program director thinks.
Thanks for the advice—I really appreciate it. I actually got accepted into the Biomedical Sciences master’s program at Midwestern University in Arizona and I’m pretty set on going there.

That works. What feedback have they given you about how their program will fill gaps in your application profile?

I’m ready to start submitting my applications to dental schools. How would you recommend I approach building my school list? I’ll be starting a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences at MWU-AZ this August and plan to finish by spring 2026. My plan is to apply now while taking my master’s courses and update my grades by winter (or sooner, since it’s a quarter system). I assume my best chance is MWU, but I have the financial flexibility to apply broadly and would appreciate any advice for someone in my situation. Also, do you think I should reach out to each school in advance to inform them about my upcoming master’s program?
