Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some help compiling a school list and advice about my application! I know my GPA is low, I had a lot of hardships during my junior and senior years of undergrad and it culminated in a not-so-great GPA. But I was able to stabilize my situation and learn from those experiences to rebuild my study habits enough to get a 513 first try. Here are my app details:

cGPA: 3.32
sGPA: 3.14
GPA by year: (3.27, 3.50, 3.43, 3.05)
Senior year, I really struggled with burnout/depression/sleep disorder that was later diagnosed.
MCAT: 513 (129/128/128/128)
LizzyM: 65.2
WARS: 66-70

Washington resident, [school edited for privacy]

Ethnicity
Asian male

Clinical Experience
1000+ hours COVID-19 tester, [edited for privacy].
70 hours (as of posting, expecting at least 100 hours by primaries) Emergency Department volunteer

Research
2000+ hours, one mid-author publication, one first-author preprint manuscript, one poster, currently working as a full-time research tech, same lab that I did COVID-19 testing through

Shadowing
51 hours (prospective ~100 hrs by primaries) (Rads, ID, EM, Gen Surg)

Non-Clinical Volunteer
~1400 hours, collaborated with musicians to record and post remote music concerts to raise money and awareness for organizations that serve underserved populations; after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, organized and conducted a charity orchestra with an audience of over 500 people to raise over $2000 for a local children's hospital. Currently planning the next concert.

Leadership
300 hours as Director of American Medical Student Association (AMSA) school premed chapter

Artistic Endeavors
500 hours D1 college marching band
400 hours in a high-level choral group culminating in a performance at Carnegie Hall

Languages
Korean (fluent), Spanish (basic)

Planning to apply very broadly and have been using MSAR/other resources but I wanted to know what you all think in terms of school lists. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I appreciate your efforts to raise funds for the hospital, but do you have any standard community service where you are coming in with humility and not as an expert? Examples include food distribution, shelter work, or job placement services. I'm not sure you have made enough of a turn from a life of music to a life in medicine.

I would also suggest some postbac work before applying.

You could receive interviews at DO schools with your stats and I suggest these:
PNWU-COM
TUNCOM
ICOM
UIWSOM
KCU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
DMU-COM
MU-COM
LECOM (all schools)
PCOM (all schools)
ACOM
WCU-COM
WVSOM
UP-KYCOM
For MD schools you coud=ld try Washington State and U Washington

Thank you for your response! Other than volunteering in the ER, I don’t have other standard long-term community service. This is something I was worried about as well which is why I have been looking for more traditional volunteering roles.

Hi Faha, thanks for the suggestions! I was also wondering if there are any other MD schools you would suggest I try?
