Hey everyone, wanted some feedback on my chances for a T10 and my school list. My list is top bc of stats, but just wanted some feedback on whether or noynmy EC’s “match” my high stats to justify the top heavy list. Also slightly worried about my lower # of non clinical volunteering hours.
Stats:
-ORM (south Asian) NY resident
-NYU for Undergrad, 2023 grad (so two gap years)
-GPA: 4.00, Psych Major
-MCAT: 524
Narrrative: Overall, pretty strong ”mental health in medicine” narrative backing up my PS and experiences.
Research: 1500 hours across clinical psychiatry research, 2 published abstracts, 1 first author paper in review, 1 second author paper in review, presented at 1 professional conference, received a $1000 research grant from my uni.
Clinical Employment: 700 hours split between two inpatient mental health facilities. One was substance abuse inpatient facility, the other was a crisis center where I often worked w the homeless to secure housing.
Non-Clinical Employment: 150 hours as lumberyard worker
Clinical Volunteering: 100 hours as behavioral health aide, helping w autistic children. 500+ hours helping as a medical assistant at my dads private practice.
Non-Clinical Volunteering: 150 hours at Crisis text line… (also 100 hours of my wrestling coaching was unpaid volunteering, but the coaching was listed under “teaching/tutoring” on my w/a)
Leadership: 200 hours as high school & K-5 wrestling coach
Shadowing: 100 hours, between Internal Medicine & Neurology
LORs: 1 science prof, 1 non-science prof, 2 letters from research PIs who are also MDs. To my knowledge, PI LORs are very strong, and one PI has clout apparently.
Athletics: 2000 hours D3 athlete across freshmen and sophomore year, had to stop after sophomore year due to injuries, big part of my story regarding mental health
Artistic endeavors: Songwriting/music production…been making music for 6 years have 2 full length albums out, multiple music videos, 50,000+ streams, etc.
School list:
• very high tier: Harvard, Hopkins, Upenn, Columbia, Duke, Stanford, Cornell, Yale, Mt. Sinai, NYU, Mayo, Ucsf, Northwestern, UMich, Pittt, WashU in st.louis, uchicago, Vanderbuilt
• Slightly less high tier: Case western, Brown , Emory, Dartmouth, Albert Einstein
• Mid tier: Rochester, Stony Brook, UMiami, Tufts, V-tech
• “Easier” NY schools: SUNY Upstate , Buffalo, UAlbany, maybe hofstra?
Please let me know what you think
