Good afternoon, I am new to SDN and I am seeking guidance on my school list. Thank you in advance for your help.

About Me
  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
    • cGPA: 3.83
    • sGPA: 3.74
  2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown
    • MCAT: 513
    • C/P 128, CARS 129, B/B 126, P/S 130
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
    • Massachusetts
  4. Ethnicity and/or race
    • Asian (Chinese)
  5. Undergraduate institution or category
    • T30 private school
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
    • Volunteer: 80 hours Mandarin interpreter for a free clinic in my city
    • Paid: 7500 hours as research coordinator. I see patients, most are children with autism. I take vital signs, perform phlebotomy, and ask medical history questions.
  7. Research experience and productivity
    • I have been on 5 papers from my research coordinator job.
    • I presented an abstract at a conference.
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
    • 80 hours. Pediatrics and OB-GYN.
  9. Non-clinical volunteering
    • 300 hours working with a nonprofit that helps Chinese immigrants adjust to life to the United States
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
    • Greek life leadership position for 1 year
    • Work study job for all 4 years of college
    • I have been working full-time since graduating in 2018. I am going to keep working and volunteering at the nonprofit this year.
  11. Relevant honors or awards
    • Departmental award at my college
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important
    • I am not sure if I count as non-traditional because of my age.
School List - I would like to avoid schools south of DC if possible because flying home will get expensive. Chicago is a reach, but still affordable.
  • Albany
  • Albert Einstein
  • Boston
  • Brown
  • Cornell (just for fun)
  • Dartmouth
  • Drexel
  • George Washington
  • Georgetown
  • Hackensack Meridian
  • Hofstra
  • Jefferson
  • Loyola
  • Maryland – are they OOS friendly? Conflicting info online
  • Mount Sinai
  • New York Medical
  • Penn State
  • Pittsburgh
  • Quinnipiac
  • Rochester
  • Rosalind Franklin
  • Rush
  • Stony Brook – are they OOS friendly? Conflicting info online
  • SUNY Downstate
  • SUNY Upstate
  • Temple
  • Tufts
  • UConn
  • UMass
  • Vermont
I also have two questions for our experts: @chilly_md @Goro @gyngyn @Mr.Smile12 @LizzyM @Faha
  1. My biology MCAT section (126) is somewhat low, and I didn’t do well in all my biology department classes (B in bio 1/2, B- in genetics, A in cell bio, A in biochem, A in immunology). My chemistry and neuroscience classes are salvaging my sGPA. I am wondering if this is going to be a red flag.
  2. Does FAP status make a difference to admissions committees? I am asking this on behalf of a friend who is not on SDN.
Thank you very much again.

You have several state public schools on your list that admit few non residents with no connection to the state. Rush and Loyola expect many more hours of non clinical volunteering than you have. I suggest these schools with your stats:
UMass
Tufts
Boston University
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Rochester
Einstein
Hackensack
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Pittsburgh
George Washington
Georgetown
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
NOVA MD
Miami
TCU
Creighton
St. Louis
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont

Connect with APAMSA chapter officers at the schools on your list to gauge the level of student support.

Possible mismatches?
Brown likes Ivy students, and I'm not sure you are attending one.
UConn, check OOS.

One thing that I would ask is how you have volunteered to benefit individuals outside your own affinity group. It's clear you want to help people similar to you, so the question is how comfortable you are helping people not like you at all. How does this show in your service orientation activities?
