Hi everyone! Thank you so much for volunteering your time to help medical school applicants like myself. I'm having some trouble with figuring out a balanced school list. Here are my stats/ECS:

1. cGPA: 3.94, sGPA: 3.93
2. MCAT score: 519 (128/130/130/131)
3. California ORM at mid-tier large state school, Biology major, AZ state ties
4. Clinical experience: 300 hours CNA, 200 hours free clinic volunteer
5. Research experience: 1200 hours wet lab microbiology basic science research, 1 school presentation, 1 mid-author pub in submission
6. Shadowing: 50 hours primary care, 25 hours pulmonology, 12 hours anaesthesiology, 10 hours gastroenterology
7. Non-clinical volunteering: 200 hours food distribution through a school club, 300 health workshops at free clinic, 150 hours tutoring
8. Relevant honors or awards: 1 summer research award from undergrad

Your purpose and experience details will make/break your chances. It's not just about matching numbers.

Furthermore, ask yourself if you want to live in a rather rural location vs. what you may be accustomed to in California. For example: Creighton, Virginia Tech Carillion, Penn State, Vermont.

Having family in a rural community does not infer your interest in working with rural communities. Only your activities and lived experience growing up in one can do that most effectively.
