WAMC?/school list help/should i retake mcat for cars?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I want to preface this with the fact that I am a U.S. applicant and do not know anything about how difficult it is to get into a U.S. school as a Canadian applicant, accept that many schools do accept Canadians.

That said, for U.S. schools your MCAT is very competetive. I had a VERY similar score, including a 126 on CARS and was concerned that my lower CARS score would hold me back, but I have been fortunate enough to get multiple acceptances, so I don't think you should worry about it. I know Canadian schools care a lot more about CARS, so I'm not sure how competetive it is there.

I think your EC's look pretty good, I think your non-clinical volunteering looks awesome. My recommendation would be getting involved with some research. I don't know how engaged you were with patients during your transport, so it all is going to come down to how much you benefited and how you can portray that in your writing, but at first glance I would want to add another experience or two, maybe volunteering with hospice or something of the sort where you are really able to spend time with people and learning about them.

Thats my 2 cents, best of luck!

I also helped the patients out with basic therapy (weights, games, fine finger movements, etc) and spent a decent amount of time talking to them and getting to know their stories. You’re also right I really gotta get into some research but i cant find anything that interests me 🙁. I don’t know how but I completely forgot to mention that i had another 200 hours helping patients in meal assistance programs, and another 50 hours taking them shopping/around the gardens and such

Thank you for your advice/feedback my friend. Much appreciated <3

You are competitive for all DO schools that accept applications from Canadians so apply to all that do. For MD schools I suggest these:
Boston University
Emory
Dartmouth
Mount Sinai
Jefferson
Medical College Wisconsin
New York Medical College
Rosalind Franklin
Saint Louis
Stony Brook
Tulane
Washington University
Wayne State

Thank you very much Faha! Quick question(s) though, would you recommend i retake the mcat for a better CARS score to boost my chances? Currently 519 (132/126/132/129). Furthermore, is there any way i could strengthen my application a bit to have a competitive shot at the higher tier schools (nyu, harvard, yale, etc)? I’m planning on doing a shadowing position with an internal medicine doc + getting another 200 hours of teaching/camp counselor-ing over the summer + trying to find a research position in MSK therapy at the therapy place i volunteer at. I know this is a really long set of questions and I apologize sincerely. I’ll completely understand if you choose to ignore it. You’ve already helped me out so much in deciding schools. All the best <3
