Hi all, I am a former foster youth hoping to provide comprehensive primary and behavioral healthcare to fellow vulnerable, underserved kids and the adults they grow up to become!
WA resident with strong ties to CA, MI, and IL.
Mid-20s, F, White+Hispanic, and grew up in rural/very underserved community. Small LAC for ug and grad.
Stats:
Research (2400 hrs):
I used MSAR + ChooseDO to determine this list, with some geographic preference for places where I have nearby family/support system.
I took many pre reqs at CC, which limits a few schools, but it can be unclear because MSAR vs website info differs. I am already in contact with those schools to clarify.
My lists are short because I honestly did not know what to expect with my MCAT so I kept it pretty limited initially.

Is it worth considering other CA MD schools? Also was wondering about adding UColorado because of family/support system near there. Can't add Rush because stats does not meet their math requirement, unfortunately.
As an aside, I also thought about adding SIU as an MD/JD applicant because my pubs are related to intersections of legal/carceral systems and healthcare, but that would be sort of a wacky sidequest lol (unless...?) I would still need to take the LSAT if so, I have practiced for it before so I'm actually open to that if it sounds like the program would be a good fit.
I appreciate any feedback. Please let me know if I am wayyy off the mark here!

- 3.2 cGPA with 3.9 post bacc GPA across 2 years full time (all my pre-recs)
- I took PREview, waiting on score. Have not taken Casper.
- CRC with MA + phlebotomy: 600hrs
- rural free clinic volunteer: 100hrs.
- urban free clinic volunteer: 70hrs.

- Undergrad RA and graduate RA, both in behavioral sciences.
- Academic CRC for 3 years: research/non-clinical responsibilities (data analysis, grants management, etc).
- 2 publications (second author)
- 1 manuscript in review (first author)
- 3 oral abstract presentations at national conferences
- 6 posters presented at national + school conferences
- Received a department-level award for undergrad research contributions, at graduation.
- Educational/underserved service and leadership experience with at-risk youth annually for several years (280hrs)
- Fundraising/events volunteer with a rare disease foundation (280hrs)
- Volunteer serving free meals at a substance use and mental health community support program, low number of hours but consistent across several months (40hrs)
- I donate handmade items for an organization serving children in families facing housing insecurity (no significant hours reported, but I've been doing it for 4 years so genuinely hundreds of hours in my own time).
- TA for 2 bio classes and a behavioral science research methods course.
- Coordinator for a clinical research mentorship program for medical students (split FTE with my CRC role, so technically part time).
- Global health program assistant (1.5 years part time in undergrad).
- Intern with state department of health and social services (1 full time summer).
- Childcare: formal daycare, nannying, babysitting, etc. including specialized services for foster families, Deaf, and blind children (ranging hours across 6+ years).
- Proficiency in Spanish and ASL/PSE.
- 6 letters: 2 science faculty (one undergrad and one post bacc), 2 non science faculty, 2 physicians (including my PI).
- Explicitly interested in primary care (especially academic primary care). This is stated directly in my PS.
- On AACOMAS I included a fun/slightly unique hobby activity.
