I don't know how if I should do a SMP or try and apply early this upcoming cycle. My application this cycle was not complete until the end of September which I know is very late. It was due to my committee letter not being submitted until Sept 25 which might have killed my chances with a lot of schools I applied to.

Stats; ORM, MD resident

GPA: 3.6 sGPA: 3.47

MCAT: 511 (128/126/130/127)

Research: 4000 hours (2 mid author pubs, 4 poster presentations - 1 award)

Leadership: 500 hours (2 year president role, 1 year VP of another club)

Shadowing: 160 hours cardiologist

Clinical experience: 1500 hours (MA in plastics, interventional pain, & ortho)

Community service: 250 hours at church

TA for upper level bio class for 2 semester, and gen chem TA for 3 years

LOR: upper level bio class I TA'ed for, upper level bio professor, research PI, doctor I MA for, and English class prof
I received 2 II, however they turned into a R and a WL.

School list: UMD, EVMS, GW, Georgetown, Rush, Vtech, UMiami, Tulane, Penn State, Loyola, Rosalind, Temple, Rutgers, Jefferson, Drexel, Howard, Tufts, VCU, Vermont, MCW, Albany, SUNY downstate, Toledo, Western Mich, Marshall, Cooper, Pitt, FIU, FAU

Your GPA does not require an SMP to help your profile, though I would want to see what you took for your science

To me, it looks like you lack enough service orientation activities though you may have listed some... 250 hours at church doing...??? This may have contributed to your lack of success as most schools screen out candidates with fewer than 150 hours at submission.

What is the nature of your 250 hours of community service? Where were your 2 interviews and waitlist?
at church it was mainly about helping out during food drives and there was large immigrant population which i would help out with getting adjusted with the United states, helping them find jobs and housing.
Also one of my meaningful experiences included starting an initiative to combat food insecurity on my campus... however I put that under leadership because I was president of the club.

For science I have a degree in Biology, so most of my science classes were just the pre-reqs for medicine.

Your late application may have contributed to your poor cycle. However, your school list was not ideal. Loyola and Rush are looking for applicants with many hundreds or thousands of hours of non clinical volunteering. Howard mainly admits applicants from the Black community. You also applied to several state public schools that admit few non residents with a MCAT of 511 and no connection to the state.
I suggest these schools if you reapply:
U Maryland
George Washington
West Virginia
Marshall
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
Methodist (when it opens)
NOVA MD
Belmont
Alice Walton
TCU
Roseman
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
New York Medical College
Albany
Hackensack
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July. If no interviews by November apply to at least 6 DO schools also.
