Hello,

I am new to this blog. So I apologize in advance if I ask stupid questions. I am an international student who got a Bachelor’s degree in the US. Here is my stats:

  1. cGPA (3.8), sGPA (3.7)
  2. MCAT scores: 506 (130/121/128/127)
  3. State of residence: international
  4. Ethnicity: vietnamese
  5. Undergraduate: BA in Biology with minor in Business
  6. Clinical experience: 1000+ hours in clinics as ophthalmology tech.
  7. Research experience: 1.5 years (current). Hopefully will have first author paper published by the end of this year)
  8. Shadowing experience: 60 hours with internal medicine MD doctor
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: a lot. More than 500 hours since freshman
  10. Other extracurricular activities: tutoring, gap year spent on clinical and research
  11. Relevant honors or awards: dean list. Research posters.
  12. This is my 3rd gap year

You likely should apply to all DO schools that take international students. Be aware they usually require proof of funds as you are ineligible for federal loans.

I agree with Faha’s list.

Western’s Pomona campus can take international students, but their Lebanon, Oregon one does not.

I would also suggest LECOM. It would be best to contact the schools to verify their policy on international applicants.

With my stats and given that I apply early (mid June) do you think I have a chance?

You would have a competitive application for a US citizen or permanent resident. I am not familiar with how DO schools evaluate international students outside the fact that only certain ones consider them.
