Hi all, just looking for thoughts on my school list (Texas schools and some OOS) and any I should add/remove. Also curious if I should apply DO. Id like to only apply MD but will do DO if I should! Also, I'm curious about what y'all think about applying to Dell Med. WAMC?!?!?!?! its my top school choice, but with the 2025 MSAR just coming out my MCAT score was booted out of the range, so I'm not even within 10% anymore 🙁. However I feel like my narrative is very specific to their mission AND Austin/Austin communities. So idk is there any hope lmk.......

General info:
- MCAT: 510 (128,125,129,128)
- Caucasian woman
- 2 gap years after graduation, 1 during graduation (explained in my optional TMDSAS essay about how I had to take a year off to financially support my family during COVID)
- application heavily focused around cultural disparities between the Mexican/Mexican American culture and medicine. Grew up in underserved Hispanic area, lived within a Spanish-speaking (nonbiological) household for 6 years, and even moved to Mexico to further explore barriers within culture and how it affected medical care
- I have a very strong narrative (which will match a lot of Texas schools mission specifically but should also in general) and good writing (pretty sure at least, lol).
Clinical Experience
- 10 hours volunteering
- oncology clinic (very few lol but it was during school so didn't have a lot of time)
- roughly 670 hours of paid hours at submission date
- elder (hospice and nonhospice) caregiver
- Projected to be roughly 3,000 hours by spring of next year
- about 60 hours in total by time of primary application
- OBGYN (30)
- Orthopedics (30-shadowed in Mexico)
- I have an opportunity to shadow a radiologist that was on admissions for UT Dell (top school) after my primary application will be submitted
- Worked with an underserved youth organization for the past 3 or so years (300 hours)
- About 20 hours of general community service on my undergrad campus
- 15 hours volunteering for Clinic that helped with AIDS/HIV prevention, awareness, etc. Not sure if this is clinical or not because I didn't interact with patients.
- 1500 or more hours in neuroscience research, became team lead my last 1.5 years
- 7 presentations at local, national, and 1 international conference
- No pubs (merp) but won a first place award for the local conference
- Supplemental instructor (roughly 450 hours)
- Molecular genetics
- human physiology
- biochemistry
- gen bio 1 & 2
- Teaching assistant (maybe 25 hours)
- Human anatomy lab
- Captain of school's club soccer team (270 hours)
- STEM underclassmen mentor (15 or so hours)
- Summer school instructor (volunteer) for the same underserved group mentioned above
- Research team lead
- Co-ed soccer league, awarded MVP
- Scuba diving
- I do ceramics and have done (local and state) competitions and stuff in high school. not sure if those are worth mentioning but I did continue ceramics in college and am pretty passionate about it and other forms of art
- Received the highest (very prestigious) award at my undergrad for exemplary leadership, scholastics, and community service on campus and in my community
- Some potentially silly awards
- Deans list since beginning of college
- Another scholar award specific to my undergrad but a nice award
