Hi, I have been getting mixed opinions on where to apply due to my 3rd time taking the MCAT. Some people told me I need to average MCAT but I have another source that says somewhat of a different story. I do know I have a top-heavy list. I would highly appreciate your feedback!
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.82
  • Science GPA: 3.75
  • MCAT Scores: 517 (130/128/129/130) but.. it was my third time (previously, 510 [131/124/130/125], 510[127/124/129/130])
  • WARS: 90
  • Year in school: Graduated from Top UC last December, currently on a gap year doing research; but was a transfer student from a California community college into the third year in college
  • Country/state of residence: CA, ORM (Asian male) low SES and I have FAP as well
  • Research – include any abstracts/posters/publications and how you were credited (eg. First author, senior author, etc):
uro/gynecological cancer lab about 1000 hours as transfer student in the current lab, working now as a lab assistant (will accumulate probably 2000+ hours from this job by the time I enroll med school); have 2 papers 2nd/3rd author work in progress, presented a campus-wide poster session being the 1st author / before was in a neurophysics lab for 6 months (150 hours, presented at international symposium for a poster I didn’t really work on), synthetic organic chemistry lab back in CC (200 hours)
  • Volunteering (clinical) – include hours/sites: two different emergency rooms combined 400 hours (probably have around 700 hours by the time I enroll med school)
  • Physician shadowing – include hours/specialties: 56 hours internal medicine (looking for more after the preceptorship program I am currently in)
  • Non-clinical volunteering: church youth group, church praise team, church media team (~400 hours)
  • Extracurricular activities: founded a 501(c)3 nonprofit Christian mission organization (currently President, 2200+ hours—this is conservative estimate), hold bible immersion camps winter and summer yearly, teaches during camp, organizes camp, and (too much to describe honestly), went to culinary school to learn coffee craftmanship between high school and college (~50 hours in training; I took a semester off although intention was to take a whole year off), staff writer at student org for writing public health awareness articles
  • Employment history: sales and customer service representative at a retail phone store (3 months), tutored underprivileged students back at community college (9 months), lab assistant at a language learning lab back at community college (9 months); now employed as lab tech at the lab I am currently in (1+ year by the time I enroll med school)
  • Relevant honors or awards: I had to afford college with 0 EFC and made my way mostly through scholarship-a quite extensive list
  • Immediate family members in medicine? (y/n): nope
  • Specialty of interest: oncology, internal medicine
