It’s what, $200 to apply to all of the Texas schools using TMDSAS? If everything else in your app is in order (LORs, PS, etc.) I would fill it out and submit anyway. Either you get in or you take a gap year like you initially planned. Your stats are good, shadowing is fine, volunteering is maybe a little low but not horrible. I’d go for it if you have everything else for your app all set.

Thank you! If I were to end up reapplying next cycle, would being a reapplicant put me at a disadvantage? I've heard that it doesn't look good for med school applications, but I wasn't sure if it was the same way for dental schools.

I would ask your favorite in-state schools. They can give you better insight how hours are viewed in the current context. They would like to have your stats whether now or later so it helps on networking.

You're definitely late in the cycle, but your stats are outstanding so I'd apply if you can get everything in place by then. Don't rush things too much though in order to make deadlines. You want a quality application, not a rushed and sloppy one. That said, a gap year isn't a bad thing and with your numbers, I would foresee no problems getting in next cycle.

If you don't mind my asking, with such strong numbers why are you so late on this?

Originally, I decided to take a gap year because I wanted a break in order to avoid burnout after graduating, but I think covid gave me more than enough time to rest at home so it feels like I already got my gap year haha. I took my DAT late August and since then, I've just been going back and forth between thinking it's too late and wanting to give it a shot since dental schools are being a little more flexible this cycle and pushing deadlines back. Looking back, I should have just applied earlier instead of wasting a month debating what I should do...

Re-applying doesn't hurt you or look bad HOWEVER I was told by adcoms that they want to see improvement in your application so if you reapply don't just send in the same stuff; you have to continue to rack up hours/research/CE etc whatever you can.
