Looking for some help narrowing down my school list, I made this with a few of the list generators (LizzyM?) found in this forum. I’d really appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance!

  • Country/state of residence:
    • WI
  • cGPA:
    • 3.4 (~3.6 last 60 credits, 3.7 last 30 credits)
  • sGPA:
    • 3.4 (~3.6 last 60 credits, 3.7 last 30 credits)
  • MCAT:
    • 516 (130, 126, 129, 131
  • Research:
    • 1000 hours- 2 posters and one 4th author publication. I might get a 1st author pub and another poster in the next ~6 months
  • Volunteering (clinical) – include hours/sites:
    • National Ski Patrol- 500 hours (including 50 as an instructor for new candidates)
  • Physician shadowing – include hours/specialties:
    • 40 total hours: 20 hours shadowing my PI’s surgical specialty, 20 hours in the clinic I work in
  • Non-clinical volunteering:
    • 100 hours spent promoting a very niche sport (won’t name it for sake of privacy) to demographics underrepresented in this sport
  • Extracurricular activities:
    • president of a massive student org pertaining to the sport mentioned earlier
    • Club sports freshman through junior year, dropped senior year to make room to become president of the other org
    • 300 hours as an intro level biochem TA
  • Paid Experience:
    • 800 hours as an MA
School list (tentative, need to narrow this down): UW-SMPH, MCW, Wayne St, Loyola, Tulane, Rush, Quinnipiac, Central Michigan, Creighton, Western Michigan, University of Illinois, SLU, University of Minnesota, University of Vermont, Virginia Tech, Albany, Drexel, Temple (Lewis Katz), Penn St, University of Pittsburgh, New York Medical College, EVMS, Rosalind Franklin, Ohio State, Georgetown, George Washington, TCU, University of Michigan, Indiana, Michigan State, Hackensack

I consider all your activities with your niche sport under Hobbies. That leaves you with zero activities for nonclinical volunteering, which to me was not addressing service orientation anyway.

Ski patrol work is comparable to lifeguard work so I'm not considering it as clinical. All your clinical experience hinges on 40 hours of shadowing and 800 hours of MA (specific area TBD).

What is your purpose as a physician? I'm having trouble seeing experiences that show you are prepared to serve others on a physician role.

With no non clinical volunteering hours and a GPA of 3.4, you will be screened out at most schools. You should accumulate 150+ hours of non clinical volunteering such as food bank, homeless shelter, etc. before you submit your application.
