Hey guys, just wanted to see what are my chances so far.

I am a sophomore in my undergrad. What are my chances if I stay on the path I am on. Also, what are some suggestions to improve my med school app before submission time?

Undergratuate school: University of Utah
CGPA: 3.45
SGPA: 3.0
EC:
-
helped lead a research team on a vocal tremor project for 2 years
- Presented in Washington D.C. at a national conference in the Ritz Carlton
- second author on published paper in a peer reviewed paper.
-Caregiver at retirement home for a year
-manage the golf tournament for special olympics
-Spent 2 weeks in Zambia building homes for families in need
-shadowed 5 different doctors for a total of about 200 hours
- certified personal trainer

My gpa is low because I made a terrible decision of working 2 jobs and doing research in the summer while enrolled in 15 credits. That summer semester sunk me... I want to apply to mostly MD schools on the east coast ( Pennsylvania and Massachusetts ) and of course University of Utah SOM.

If only we had a subforum for this...we could call it ‘What Are My Chances’, and we could put all these posts there!

Improve GPA. Do not let ECs get in the way of your studies. Apply with a much improved GPA with a reasonable MCAT score.

For a “real” WAMC, either revive this thread or start a new one once you have MCAT score and are ready to apply.

Best of luck to you.

Chances lethal right now for MD, OK for some DO (but not mine). You also appear to lack any patient contact experience. That's lethal by itself. 200 hrs of shadowing is overkill.
