Please let me know what schools I should add or remove! I want to thank you in advance for reading a summary of my app and helping me out!
  • cGPA: 3.85
  • sGPA: 3.83
  • MCAT score(s): 515 (129, 126, 130, 130)
  • State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US): CO resident
  • Ethnicity and/or race: African American
  • Undergraduate institution or category: University of Colorado Boulder (graduated 2021)
  • Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer): 200+ hours at a free clinic serving low-income individuals
  • Research experience and productivity: 1000 hours over two years. Wrote and defended an honors thesis.
  • Shadowing experience and specialties represented: Virtual shadowing 70 hours.
    • Also, I started working as a medical scribe to get more clinical experience after my application was submitted, but before I added schools (I was waiting for my MCAT at this time, which came out today, but my primary was processed on 8/4). I have worked 48 hours so far with a primary care physician and counting. I will be mentioning this in my secondaries and/or updates. I plan to work at this job for at least a year.
  • Non-clinical volunteering: 200+ hours at a dog shelter and Meals on Wheels
  • Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc):
    • I will be working as a medical scribe over my gap year.
    • I was a TA for anatomy lecture and anatomy lab (with cadaver dissection).
    • I am also in a mid-level leadership spot at the free clinic I volunteer at.
  • Relevant honors or awards: Summa cum laude after the defense of my honors thesis. Dean's List for all but two semesters during college.
  • School list so far:
    • University of Colorado School of Medicine
    • Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University
    • Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
    • University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
    • Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine
    • University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine
    • University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix
    • Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University
    • University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
    • Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

Thank you so much for your response! I have looked at all the schools you have recommended and compiled another list. Is this new list a good compilation that gives me a good shot for this cycle?

Delete Penn State and FAU, and add all HBCs (including UCLA/Drew). Also add any of the schools on the wise Faha's list. Any med school is yours, so nothing wrong with aiming high.
Thank you for the advice! Is there a reason why I should take Penn state and FAU off? I added them as "safe" schools (even though there's realistically no such thing in terms of med schools). I can also replace those two schools with University of Virginia School of Medicine and USF Health Morsani College of Medicine.

Because you can do better than Penn State, and FAU is OOS unfriendly. Try U Miami, as they are URM freindly. So is IU and U WV.

Thank you so much! I will make those additions and remove those two schools.
