I'll say on paper, you should be a very desirable applicant. If you're working for your prehealth office, I'd be interested in knowing what advice you have already received regarding your application and how you came up with your list. I don't understand why you have to stay within the Northeast, but the metrics you disclose should give you leverage.

app looks real good! I think you could probably get in anywhere you applied to.

you can apply to Stony and take physics after they accept you
Thank you! I was under the impression that Stony required applicants to complete pre-reqs before applying. Am I misunderstanding what they said on their website? "Admissions requirements for the School of Dental Medicine require completion of specific courses prior to application as listed below:"
I really hope I'm misunderstanding because I really wanted to apply to Stony before I found out I won't be eligible since I didn't take physics yet.

Thank you for your comment 🙂

I was told by the office to basically keep up my grades and focus on projects that can show off my hand skills. Is there anything else you'd recommend?

As for my list, I narrowed down schools based on location. Then, I spent a bit of time reading AMA threads here and reading student's experiences to decide if I would like the school/program. I know I won't be able to afford to apply to more than 10 schools, so I tried to limit my list because of that reason as well. (I'm currently trying to save up for my app fees, but it's difficult between rent and etc.)

I would email them and see if its just one course they may let you slide. I know for other schools if you just have one or two classes left, you can take the pre-reqs after you get accepted

I would confirm with the Director of Admissions, mentioning your unability to apply to them if all those courses need to have grades before submitting an application. It could be policy from the committee, or it could be a typo for all I know.

Great stats!

Adding another school like UNC wouldn't hurt if you are willing to pay the application fee -- I originally added UNC just to increase my options. They have a renowned dental program and are very strong clinically. They're ranked #2 in the world according to ShanghaiRanking, but take that with a grain of salt because there are many different ways to rank schools.

However, a member of their interview committee made it seem like UNC strongly prefers OOS applicants with a compelling reason to go to UNC over another school, like their in-state school. There are typically 16-17 OOS in a class of 82, so use that as a rough reference point when considering how many OOS are given acceptances. I had a great interview experience with them and was accepted this cycle as OOS. Not sure if I'll accept, though.

I didn't know we could do that. Thank you so much for letting me know!!! Should I wait until a little after the decision releasing period? I emailed a couple of schools to clarify their letter of rec requirements, but I haven't received a response. I know they're probably getting hundreds of email right now anyway.

Edit: Just read this on Stony's website:

"Should I complete my prerequisite courses before submitting my application?
Yes. The School of Dental Medicine requires the completion of pre-requisite courses prior to application. "

I will definitely reach out to confirm. Thank you so much! Fingers crossed for it being a typo 🙂

I hadn't considered UNC since it's a little far from my home, but thank you so much for sharing this info with me!!

it's not
Stony Brook is one of the few, if not the only school that requires all pre-reqs be completed before applying...
