my current gpa is 2.7 (overall)
transfer student from cc to private univ

im in my junior year and taking physics, a/p and ethics this semester
i feel like so far i have a good grasp on the material/concepts and have gotten As in my first 3 exams...

-i have about 50 hrs in shadowing so far and will prob get to 100 by the end of the dec as i shadow twice a week for 4 hrs a day *different offices/specialties

-ive been working in an ER for the past 1 1/2 yr
-currently in pre-dent club, habitat for humanity and school wellness club (peer advisor/counselor as well)
-and i am active in these clubs and go to every meeting/event

basically my goal is get As this semester to bring up my gpa and stay active in my e.c's and dental shadowing, if i can get As this semester i plan on taking the DAT in jan or feb and applying to school next cycle since i will be a senior next fall

-is this a wise idea? i am very determined on doing well in school and have adjusted my entire life/working part time (8hrs a week) to focus on school and not wasting time (yes i do take some breaks though...we all are human! lol)

- i think i can study during my 5 week break during winter for dats and maybe enroll in a dat prep course..

do you guys think im jumping ship too soon? or if i make the grades and not burn out-- to apply? if i get Bs then i know i wont have a chance and will hold off till next fall to think about it..because i wanna to finish my junior year with stellar grades and do well senior year

im a cali reside and want to apply to all cali schools as well as some east coast schools

-thanks for the help! =)

yeah i know my gpa is of most concern but i really am stepping it up and trying to do the damage control...its early in the game but im confident i can pull out with some As this semester...i know my ec's wont be a problem cuz i have plenty of that to go around-its the gpa and hopefully solid dat scores when i take them

-i just want to prepare myself for the app cycle if i do well this semester and next spring. worst situation is reapplying next year right?

It seems like you're doing all you can do. Just keep hacking away at those classes - earning A's. I would even reduce the EC's a bit to ensure doing well in school. Like another poster said figure out how many credits of A's you're going to need to get your self to a 3.0+. If you're a junior this term it shouldnt be too bad - but you may need to apply after your senior year to increase your gpa. If I were you I would take loads I knew I could do well in get A's all this year, take the DAT and see where you're at. If you've passed 3.0 cum. and received a good DAT might as well apply right?

GL - get those 4's.

thanks.

i really am motivated to do well academically and if i get As and still get rejected, raising my gpa alone and trying will be worth it
