Hey guys,

I know it is really late to take the DAT for 2007 admission. But I havent taken mine yet due to course work and some other exam conflicts at my quarter system school where everything move crazy.

I have submitted my AADSAS on first week of september 2006. I have more than enough predental volunetter/ shadowing experience. I have worked as a dental assistent in a private dental practice. Also, I was Biomedical engineering before but I changed it to physical sciences (and minoring in biological sciences) since I have decided to go to dental school. I have been taking quarter terms (10 weeks) with credits ranging from 14.5 to 21. AADSAS has calculated my GPAs and the numbers are as follows:

Cumulative: 3.81 / 4.00
BCP 3.76/4.00

Also, I have mentioned in my application that I will be taking my DAT in oct 2006 but wasnt been able to take it. So now, I am planning to take it during third week of november and surely before thanksgiving.

What do you all think about this situation? Do I need to inform dental school about my DAT situation? Any other advise in terms of increasing my chances for dental admission in 2007.

Every bit of advise helps.

Thanks in advance.

My personal opinion and nothing more.....

It depends on your DAT scores, but it's still pretty late. You've gotta do well on your DATs this late in the game. Hope you do well on your DAT scores and then I, personally, would send in some additional information to add to your file to make sure your app gets another look.. Even if it's just 20 additional hours you've shadowed, or some volunteer activity.. Anything to do something extra and make your app stick out

If you do well on the DAT then it's not too late. It is late, and the later it gets the stronger your application needs to be. Send unofficial DAT results to the schools the day you take it, make sure your applications are complete, cross your fingers, and do what everyone else on SDN is doing right now - start stressing out about getting into dental school this year.

Everyone's heard the one where they know someone who knew someone who knew someone who took the DAT in January and still got into dental school. Good luck.

My two cents? Well.. first off, it is spelled "advice"

I say.. apply early next year... you will just put yourself under undue stress.. do well on the DAT and you will have your choice of school next year.. do well on the DAT and apply this year?.. all you get is leftovers...

I'm one of those people who has friends who are friends of friends...etc. got in.

Anyway, he got into Nova, DAT in january.

My suggestion is to still apply this year...you already aubmitted, so it would be stupid to just waste that money. You need to do awesome on your DATs, I'm going to say 22+, just being safe. This will hopefully keep you in the running at most schools even if you can only get their next interview and it isn't until March.

The other thing my friend who got in did was he didn't just sit around before his DAT. He called the school a couple times to tell them that he had put off his DAT but he was really really interested in the school, and to send updates on new stuff he did. I think it probably helped since when he finally did take the DAT, he wasn't just a file number with new scores...he was someone who had called a couple times and he's really personable...so that probably helped.

Apply now.

Contrary to what people say, the application process is NOT stressful.

The neurotic, and immature find it stressful. It really is not though.

Send your stuff in now. If you do not get accepted, apply again next year.

Don't listen to all these people. They are also pre-dents and in most cases epitomize the blind leading the blind.

However, by this definition, I am a pre-dent, meaning you should not listen to me. So pick and choose whose advice you follow.

I would apply now, if I were you.

I am not blind 😕 I can see everything you write, I swear...
