hello, here is my situation (which is probly lotta other ppls too) and i wanted to hear some ppl's opinion, anything would be greatly appreciated!

I took mcat 5/22, so will be released end of June. and AMCAS opens in 6/2, and i wanna send it in early as possible for the best chance of gettin in. My practice scores ranged from 28 - 35 so i really dunno wut to expect (im really hoping for 30).

But I was planning to apply to ~20 schools, and it seems waste of money to apply to all 20 without knowing my score. At the same time, i dont wanna wait a whole month and not apply cause it might hurt my chances. I was told just finishing secondaries asap will even help my chances w/o mcat score so i wanna do everything i can asap.

So i was thinkin bout just applying to 10 or so that i think i have "better" chance of gettin in and maybe apply to reach schools depending on my mcat score. That way i dont waste so much money just incase i have to retake.

does that sound ok?? thanks so much for all the help on this forum i really appreciate it.

so I am new to this process as well but from what i understand, you could just send in AMCAS with one school chosen at this time, they will check your transcript and such while u are waiting for the MCAT score, after AMCAS confirms everything you should have your score back by then, and at that point it takes a second to just add more schools
this way you just pay for one school now, and can get your score before u apply to more schools

my view is that the difference between applying to 18 schools and 25 schools is maybe a few hundred dollars (primary, secondaries fees). This is a pretty big process in our lives and careers and I know money is tight for everyone but I think its in our best interest to do WHATEVER we can to increase our chances of not only getting in, but in to a great school and if that means a couple more hundred dollars than i say do it. Im applying to close to 28 schools and I have solid numbers and EC's. I just dont want to regret anything later.

HIGHLY recommended if you want to "test the waters". It all depends on your overall stats, though. However, you can still apply to one school (whichever) and if you don't do so hot, opt to wait till next year and work on your mcat again.

You can cut down your list to your "safety schools" and submit your AMCAS on June 2. Once you get your MCAT score back you can add more schools to your AMCAS and re-submited.
I didnt do this last year, my mcat scored came back really bad so I wasted $$$. But in the end it worked out and I got into MD school.

From my experience, most medical school dont start handing out interviews until September. So along as you complete everything by August you will be very competitive.

Good luck to you
