Does anyone have any advice or insight on how the process of transferring to another program works. I have been really unhappy at my current program for sometime and would like to transfer out at this point. I have had discussions with the PD but the bottom line is that I do not feel comfortable at my current program and feel that the treatment I receive boarders on harassment (ie unwanted public attention occurring at least several times a week at this point). Does anyone know of programs that are looking for a PGY3 resident? I work very hard and have tried to solve this internally but it only seems to be getting worse so I need to start looking at other options.

(typed a long reply but got deleted... but the gist)
Sorry that sucks - I haven't gone through it myself but have a good friend who has in IM. Talk to a senior resident or a junior attending either at your program or old med schools and get their perspective on the starting years before pulling the trigger. I know I've often felt overwhelmed/underprepped this year.
I'd caution against going to the PD with this until you have a plan - it's in their best interest to keep you in the program esp if it's related to possible program shortcoming such as attending malignancy.
There have been a lot of new programs over the past couple of years - try contacting their PDs. They may be interested in picking up someone who has completed their PGY-2 year already so they can mature the program faster.

I'm really sorry to hear about how you're being treated at your program. I would agree that if you feel the PD is not able to advocate for you then i would not mention anything about wanting to transfer at this point. Feel free to private me if you want to have a more in depth discussion about this.
