Im interested in conflict war and disaster medicine. I want to dedicate my life to working with organizations that send medical teams around the world to act as first-ish responders to disasters such as war, earthquake, flood, refugee or internal displacements, ect. If there is anyone that is similarly interested (or not) and has come across helpful tools, organizations, information, websites, classes/programs, schools, books ect. that can assist me in preparing for my dream then please reply to this post and help me, and anyone else interested, out. Thank you

Check out Doctors Without Borders (MSF)! On their website, they have a lot of interesting resources on medicine in conflict zones, such as the issue of maintaining neutrality. I'd also recommend the book "An Imperfect Offering" by Dr. James Orbinski. You might find some of Dr. Paul Farmer's books interesting as well. He has vast experience in practicing in nations suffering from political strife and absolute poverty. It is awesome that you want to dedicate your life to assisting individuals in war-torn countries! Best of luck on your journey.

I second MSF. Great organization for that kind of stuff.

Try the search bar. There are several related threads on SDN.

This is probably not the answer you want, but the best thing to do now is study hard and get into medical school and then residency. Of course, you could enlist in the Army after college as a combat medic or in the Navy as a corpsman if you wanted some real world experience before signing up for medical school.

If you're interested in the military route, operational medicine in the Army might be a good fit and would also prevent you from large medical school debts that prevent many well-meaning doctors from doing the sort of thing you are proposing. The US military has been shooting at people in Afghanistan since 2001 and might be shooting at people in Syria, Mali, and/or Iran fairly soon. Check out this link for some Army-related resources: http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/borden/

Also, one last Pro Tip: It's "etc" which stands for "et cetera": http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/et+cetera?s=t

Good luck.
