OK,

This is an odd post but anyway.. I'm from Michigan, I went to Arizona State, and I've moved back home since graduating. I had always pretty much planned on moving back and going to MSUCOM or another in-state (MD) school. Then the problem arose where I realized michigan sucks and I hate cold weather. Now as I'm about to finish my app, I haven't learned much about some of the schools where I may not freeze to death.

What I'm wondering is, are any of TUCOM-CA, TUCOM-NV, NOVA, or LECOM bradenton heads and shoulders above the others? I realize these things are never widely agreed upon (which school is better) but honestly, I can use any help: pros, cons, etc.. I've already kind of been swayed away from AZCOM, but how do these compare to it?

any help is cool
thanks
mt

Why not apply to them all? All good for different reasons. I chose Bradenton because of PBL, the students that are there are very happy with the program, profs seem good, can't beat the ocean, or the low tuition. TUCOM Ca has a great rep and high standards (high ave. MCAT and gpas) and Dr. Height is an increadibly nice man to work with through the app process. Nevada is definately HOT and part of the TUCOM world, so probably quality. Don't know anything about NOVA.

Can't go wrong with NSU. If you like warm weather South Florida is the place to be. Plus the women down there are freaking hot. Only bad thing is that the people down there are total as$holes.

Yeah...Why not AZCOM? Fantastic school IMO! 🙂 Sweet match list, really awesome facilities, and if you saw yesterday's article in the Arizona Republic, the problems with 3rd year will most likely be completely resolved by the time you get there. Plus the Phoenix area is just gorgeous, if you ask me.

Note NSU's attendance policy. This is the reason I will not be applying there.

I forgot about the attendance policy. And the dress code. Come to think of it, forget everything I said.

Our attendance policy has been changed to 70% minimum required attendance. Most people don't even go to class that often because you have a friend swipe your ID card, or you swipe your own card and leave....

For me, the dress code policy is a little annoying, but it is not enforced at all. I wore shorts and a t-shirt the last few weeks of class. Keep in mind that EVERY medical school has a dress code policy during your third and fourth years....

If you want a warm weather climate, NSU-COM has it all. The beach is 10 minutes away, the Hard Rock Casino is 5 minutes away, Riverfront nightlife area is 10 minutes away, and all the glitz and glamour of South Beach is about 25 minutes away.....

Thank you all, it's nice to be able to post something so silly and get honest feedback and answers, But I have a serious case of S.A.D. and you wouldn't believe how crucial it is going to be to be able to see the sun when I'm not knee-deep in some dead guy. I honestly think I wouldn't make it if 75% of my weekends weren't sunny.

I was actually leaning towards AZCOM because AZ is basically my second home.. Being swayed away means that I have been encouraged to look at other options; it's largely due to the third-year problems they're having, and I don't particularly like glendale either.. I've just gotten the vibe that it is kind of a half-assed school for some reason and it seems like most people who go there wouldn't if they got into MSUCOM. So as a Michigan resident with a definite advantage in getting into MSUCOM, I could see a lot of folks thinking I'm crazy if I were to be accepted.

Which brings me back with a couple more questions to you guys:
1. Are D.O.'s having any luck matching into Radiation oncology? I hadn't seen any on the match lists but I did just skim, and I really love that stuff.

2. Is there any good place to check up on the whole deal with AZCOM's rotations?? Obviously their website won't exactly acknowledge a problem so I'm wondering where I could get some info.
edit: I read that article in the republic

And sorry to sound like I assume I'm getting into every med school in the USA but I want to be prepared if I have to make a choice

Dressing up might be fun though, god knows I didn't do it during undergrad

Touro University Nevada will have most, if not all, of its clerkship rotations in Southern Nevada. That means most students will not have to move to another location during their 3rd and 4th years of osteopathic medical education. I know that all of our core rotations will be done in Southern Nevada.

I don't think an osteopathic Rad Onc residency exists... and if that is the case - it would be nearly impossible to match since it is competitive enough for US MD's.

A.1. I see D.O.'s matching into diagnostic-radiology. I think oncology-radiology is a fellowship or subspecialty of diagnostic-radiology. I am sure there are D.O.'s that match into the program.
A.2. The only thing I could find was this:
