DO NOT sit on your new couch that you bought with your fiance right after anatomy lab. Take a shower (possibly two) before you impart your personal funk to your home furnishings.

Just a thought.

The smell was probably just your upper lip, or your girlz nasty coochy.😀

Don't pick up your kitten either, cause they don't like going in the shower.😀

This will sound compulsive, but during my first year, every lab day when I returned home I would immediately strip and put everything into a hot washing machine - scrubs, underwear, bra, and clog inserts, and then put myself into a hot shower. The fact that my husband refused to kiss me when he came home and my hair smelled like anat lab might have had something to do with it 😉 It was nice to have non-funky lab clothes to put on in the morning, though.

Funny... this is exactly what I did today. Compulsive? More like practical.

Seriously though.. does anyone have some secret "ask Heloise" type remedy for getting the funk out of fabric?

Hi Hokiedoc!! 🙂

I used to use Febreeze Laundry Odor Eliminator (not the same thing as the febreeze spray). Fill the machine more than you normally would for the amount of stuff you are putting in with hot water and use a good amount of detergent.

I'm not sure what's best for fabric, but.... he best thing on the planet to get the formalin smell off your HANDS is the lemon scented Bath and Body Works antibacterial soap. Seriously! Almost everyone in my class was toting a bottle of it first year. It has to be the Lemon scent though!

Oh, and you probably already know this, but remember: Don't ever wash your scrubs or other "anatomy" clothes with your other clothes. Unless you want them ALL to smell like formalin.

Good luck with figuring out a way to get the smell out of your scrubs....I never did have any luck, although I never tried that Febreeze thing. I was only too happy to throw those scrubs and sneakers out when the semester was over.

i'd suggest washing soiled stuff w/ plenty of detergent and bleach, and drying it w/ fabric softener sheets. once in awhile, u might dry clean it.

I always just wore the same set of clothes and shoes to anatomy (I changed before and after lab). After anatomy was over, I threw my clothes in a locker I never used and left them there. I've since forgotten the combination and will probably never open it again. God save the future M1 who gets assigned to that locker...

The best way to deal with your scrubs is to toss them out after anatomy is over and never look back.

Aside:

take me to the stars that you know.

Won't you dance with me
dance with me

I want so badly to go.

(Now that'll be in my head ALL day)

It's only been 2 days and I'm already desensitized to the smell. I can't even tell if I have the smell on me or not. Grrrreeaaatt....🙁

Primate-

Your parrot feathers are showing. 🙂

wearing 2 pairs of gloves helps keep your hands from stinking..
at least it's worked the first few wks of lab.

They are making us take out scrubs form the hospital and use them and turn them in to be washed. Is some poor hospital worker gonna end up with formalin scented scrubs?

also, putting a layer of handsoap in between the two layers of gloves helps...
it also makes it a lot easier to put on the second pair
