“They said that they are committed to this year and to 2023, but nothing in between or nothing thereafter”

Chicago based. 15k attendees. Meeting in 2018.

I love it.
Do something about mental illness or you tourism dollars will suffer.
We have the same issue in my small tourist town. But too many people are afraid to address the issue. The ACLU gets involved and city councils fold.
Address mental illness and homelessness. What do you have to lose? Millions apparently.

"A member of the association was assaulted last year near the Moscone Center in San Francisco."

ASA was in Boston last year. And ASRA was in NY, SCA in Phoenix. Unless they're referring to ASRA 2017 which was in SF. Also ASA only released locations until 2021

This was from another article
"The issue has become so dire that Chicago-based organizers of a five-day, semi-annual medical convention, which attracts around 15,000 people and pumps $40 million into the local economy, have announced they are moving the event to Los Angeles."
San Francisco’s homelessness and opioid crises drive away business

If the ASA pulled out they’d be sending an email blast ASAP informing people so they can adjust hotels and flights. Not easy for such a large amount of people.

Still listed as at San Fran on ASA website, along with travel info. Surely this would be taken down immediately if they pulled out?

Not this year. Not 2023 either. Read the news carefully. But no more SF after that date.

I’m sure they have no interest in telling people they pulled out of SF for being s#it hole if they plan for people to show up to this year’s meeting in SF, let alone 2023.

I figure by 2023 Emperor Trump will have driven all of ISIS and MS-13 into the Pacific Ocean and all the current homeless people would be driving around the streets of San Fran in Bentley's. Go figure...

Looked up the list of upcoming events at the Moscone Center for the rest of the year. Besides ASA, the only other medical conventions are the APA (HQ in DC), the IDSA (HQ in VA), and the AASLD (also HQ in VA). So by process of elimination it's almost definitely the ASA.

Does anyone know when the last time the meeting was in SF before this year? They don't repeat meeting sites too often, and in the article it says they're committed to 2023 which is 5 years away, so in other words they're having the meeting in the same place 5 years later... Doesn't sound exactly like there ready to move on.

Pretty sure five years ago.

These contracts get signed years ahead.

As far as I can tell years 2000, 2003, 2007, 2013 were in SF.

It's not the ASA meeting. Found some people in the know.
It was sent out in the ASA Monday Morning email blast that it was not ASA.
