Was optometry your first choice?

I little survey.

Some people chose optometry because they couldn't get into med school or their grades were bad. So other health careers such as med school was their first choice.

Was optometry school your first choice? If not, what was your first choice and why did you choose optometry?

Optometry was my first choice before entering college.

At first, I thought I wanted to be a high school teacher/college instructor. While in college, I worked at an optical part time. After college, I tried teaching for a year and hated it but I never quit the optical business, just cut back to 1 or 2 days a week. After deciding teaching wasn't for me, I became a Certified Optician and now have decided to go to Optometry school. I will be applying for August 2009. If I had it to do over again, I would have majored in International Relations (it interests me) with a minor in Biology then apply to Optometry school. I would be graduating Optometry school this year instead of filling out applications and studying fot the OAT. However, I have learned a lot being in the Optical field that I probably would not know if I had gone straight to Optometry school.

You have a problem? What is it about the origial post that annoys you? Just a friendly survey question. Someone else could have asked the same question and you would not have said a thing. Just curious what everyone's first choice was.

Mupreopt, why are you so defensive of yourself? Relax. It was just that you are funny sometimes. Do you object to that? Of course there is nothing wrong with asking, do you feel there is something wrong? If not, then why respond in such a way.

You have 2 more years undergrad because you failed Organic Chemistry I and decided to dedicate an entire semester to completing it (along with one other course), right?

No.
I failed once, withdrawed twice.
So I took an independent study organic chemistry course recently through another university. I had 4 months to complete it. I passed it at the end of November. Registration for spring 2008 was at the beginning of November. So I didn't register because I wasn't finished with organic yet and wasn't sure if I would be taking any courses in spring 2008. So when I finished the course, all the classes were already filled up. Plus I was/am having financial difficulty. So this semester I am just taking one course and getting a job. I will save up money to take organic 2. If I were to register for classes this semester, things would have really been screwed up. So this semester is to just get everything situated and back on track. I plan to return fall 2008 as a full-time student.
Plus I didn't discover until later that I had to take 48 hours of 300+ level courses despite reading the catalog many times.

mupreopt, do you ever notice how people respond to your questions? if your questions arent being taken seriously, maybe you could reflect on what questions might be better or what questions you can ask other other people that might understand your situation better.
