I just got the wash manual 33rd edition from amazon and its spiral bound, I actually meant to get paper back (perfect bound) because I prefer that to spiral. But looking at this manual, its pretty huge, 1000+ pages and the pages themselves are fairly small which makes me think that if I returned this and got the paper back it would be really tight and tough to open the pages.

Any recommendations on whether to keep the spiral bound or just go for the paper back? I wish I could feel the paperback, then I could make a decision.

I'm curious about this too... bump.

I have the Washington Manual of Surgery in paperback and I wish to god that I had had the opportunity to get the spiral bound (it was given to me). Opening and holding a page can be difficult with the small length/width of the book, which would be fine if you were casually reading it. However, I would like to use it as a reference on wards on my surgery sub-I when writing orders/seeing consults.

I dont like that book at all.

That being said, the spiral is literally 90 times better than paperback. Its designed to be in your white coat, so you can look at it on rounds. The ability to keep the book "the size of one page" (spiral bound) as opposed to having it "forcefully opened and be the width of two pages" (paperback) is awesome. I didn't even realize that it came as anything other than spiral bound.

For ease of read and maximized use, use the spiral bound copy
