Does anyone know anything about this program? On scutwork.com, there are some negative reviews as far as teaching goes..........
Any input is appreciated.

I know nothing about these programs, but according to other med students who also know nothing, Wash U is considered far superior to SLU, and many people in Illinois won't even be applying to SLU. Hope that this is of no use to anyone!

I interviewed at a number of places last year and will be doing my Anesthesiology residency at Wash U. Right now I am in Denver for my intership so I am not St Louis - so keep that in mind. But I really liked Wash U and from the get go it was my top rank. I had heard some negative things too but during my interview I just didn't find them to be true and I wasn't shy about asking tough questions to residents or faculty. Evers and Cox were really cool as were the rest of my interviewers. The facilitys were probably the nicest I saw on the trail and I am sure I will recieve great training. The only drawback I saw was the intergrated intern year they have - the schedule for that looked brutal. So I found my own internship and just ranked the advanced position. Honestly all the top programs are about the same but I am married with a kid and St Louis is a lot more livable for my situation than Boston or NYC. If I was single I would have probably ranked those programs higher specifically Brigham, BID and Columbia. But I am happy with my match - hopefully I will be in a year too!

Keep in mind that people go on scutwork after a bad day or whatever to vent or a mole goes in and post a glowing review of a crappy program to drum up interest. I am at a place that has a few scutwork reviews and they are so off base it's not even funny. The people that wrote them were disgruntled for whatever reason - I know one the authors and can tell you he is the biggest POS ever. My advice would be to visit any program your interested in and don't even read scutwork. Honestly you'll be shocked at how quickly you can tell where you will fit in and where you won't. Good luck.

Thank you guys for your honest and insightful reviews. Please keep them coming........I still like to know more.🙂

I just graduated from a medical school in the mid-west last year and was born and raised in StL so I was interested in both of those programs.

I was not a big fan of WashU program, something about the staff (although the PD seemed really nice) was off. My four interview were done by some really dull people and that hospital campus is a zoo. I think a lot of people just end up interviewing there becuase of the medical schools name not the anestheisa program. On the bright side, the CA-1s dont take call for the first 6 months!

Amazingly, I like SLU better. I think the place is going through some growing pains, but I really like the staff. I not really sure why they didnt fill last year. Anyways, I ended up ranking SLU higher than WashU although they both were middle of the list.

Just an opinion😉

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm looking for...real opinions from people who have personal experience with either program...thanks for the info!

As someone who has friends in both programs and has rotated at both programs, there really is no comparison.

WashU is a consensus top 10 program if you're into that kind of thing. SLU hasn't filled in the past 3 years, so there has got to be a reason for that, not just coincidence.

WashU combines worldclass faculty, facilities, resources, and name all without the attitude. The people are as friendly and laid back as they come. And for you private practice-minded people, when you talk to some of the private MDAs in the St. Louis area and mention WashU, their comments revolve around the great training and strong graduates that WashU produces.

SLU combines subpar faculty, facilities, resources, and name all without the attitude. The people here are also friendly and laid back. Their "growing pains" have been going on for over 5 years and will probably take at least another 5.

Both places you will work hard. Not at the same level as NW, Maryland, UF, etc. - but SLU and WashU are definitely not cush programs.
