I noticed that there has yet to be a thread, in the DPT forums at least, addressing the program at WashU. I was recently accepted here, and wondered if there might be any insight from current students, alum, or other applicants. Historically it is a great and recognized program, but I know that a lot of one's decision on where to attend PT school has to do with a good personal fit.

I've looked into most of the information I can find online, but have yet to visit the school (their open house is in March, & I definitely plan on attending that), or talk to any current students.

Any information you could provide, opinions, pros/cons, benefits/drawbacks, unique qualities, I am totally open to & would love to hear - it would really be appreciated. Thanks!! 🙂

I've been accepted at WashU and will attend. I made a trip for a personal visit last March and was really impressed by the facility (and it's location within the center of St. Louis' medical district) as well as the faculty members that I met with. I also attended the open house this past October and it was more of the same, just confirming my thoughts about the program. It is pricey compared to others I applied to, but the reputation of the PT program is stellar. During observations and my internship, every PT I've told about my acceptance to WashU was impressed and congratulated me on getting into such a prestigious school.

Congrats! And thanks for your response, that was very helpful. Do you happen to know if there is anything that sets their program apart from the rest, beside the prestige? Either from what you've discussed with faculty, or seen within the facility? Thanks again! Hopefully I will solidify my decision as well after the open house in March :xf:

I'm from Kansas so I must admit that I have no means of comparing WUStL to the east coast or west coast schools (which seem to be very popular among these boards). As compared to a few other schools in the midwest, however, I was impressed that all of the faculty are practicing PTs because at the other schools I visited only a few if any of the instructors were currently in practice. The other main point that set it apart for me was the quality of the equipment within the facility. For example, WUStL has two of the multiple camera motion sensor setups (HD, Slo-Mo, etc) and mentioned that they had another on order. At Rockhurst University, I noticed a small Sony Handycam on an average tripod. I mean no offense to Rockhurst, I really enjoyed their faculty and the at-home feel they have, but as far as the quality of equipment there is absolutely no comparison. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

I was doing some random searching and surfing and found this review. It is very detailed and informative. I mentioned in a previous post that my perspective of WashU comes from a midwestern background, but this student was from southern Cal. so it may help out a bit for those who are comparing WashU to some of the coastal schools. Remember though, that this link (and what I have stated in previous posts) is mostly just opinion and is based relative to the background of the student.

The Consus Group ranked Washington University DTP as tied for 2nd in the top 85 schools in 2008. The Consus Group compiles information about contracts, deals industries and companies. US News has Wash U DPT program tied for 2nd with Pittsburg U. Hope this helps
