Hey all,

So I just got invited to WashU after about 5 months of silence from them. The flight from Boston is quite expensive, so I'm trying to figure out if I'm simply interviewing for the waitlist at this point. I've finished interviewing about 7 other schools with one acceptance and all the rest pending post-interview decisions, so I am in a good position, but if there is any chance at a non-waitlist acceptance from WashU, I think I'll go.

Any thoughts? Many, many thanks.

wow, there's hope to hear from them. I've been complete for around 5 months as well. Did you hear by email or snail mail?

Sorry to not answer your question.... I have no idea if its just waitlist spots at this point. Maybe call and ask?

think about it this way: if you don't go to the interview, there's no chance you will end up at WashU. If you're ok with that, then cancel your interview.

I've said it before, nobody on SDN has a crystal ball, you can't possibly get the answer you're looking for on this website.

Snail mail. Like you I was very very surprised! I figured that my next envelope from them would contain a rejection.

Have you bugged them at all in anyway? I have been completely silent on my end. I just every now and then look at the status page. Did you call them or in anyway facilitate things?

No, nothing, which is what is so odd. I only sent update letters to schools I interviewed at.

From what the students there told me, plenty of them were interviewed in Feb or March. The admission office told me that they don't finish making all their decisions, reject/waitlist/accept, until April 15.
Best of luck!

Long story short: exact same situation last year. I got in. Interviewed the day after the Superbowl. PM me if you have any questions.

Oh, and I'd like to mention that I know tons of people with crazy application stories of interviewing super late and getting into top-10 schools while being rejected at other schools early in the game, etc. Treat every interview as a potential acceptance...

I got the invite today too. Am I screwed at WashU if I dont have much research experience? I am much more interested in a clinical career. Does this mean that I will not fit in at WashU?

No and no. Many of my classmates here had little research experience when they applied and many of us are interested in a clinical career. For example, I'm planning on doing a residency at a community hospital with absolutely no intent on ever doing research again and I feel completely supported by my school.

That said, Wash U is a great school for research if you're into it, and most students will spend the summer after their first year doing research. Remember, though, that not all research is bench work. There are tons of clinical research projects out there. And, again, probably about 25% of students don't do research during that summer.

PM me if you have other questions about Wash U

You guys should go. If one didn't go on interviews because it wasn't a sure-fire acceptance, no one would go on any interview. I applied to WashU on a whim and fell in love with it when I went on my interview, so at least give yourself the chance.
