Looking for input on these two schools. As a little background, I'm pretty confident that I want to go into academic medicine but am not sure about specialty. Research opportunities are important to me but I definitely do not see my career as a researcher. Want to be a clinician first, researcher second. Also not really looking for input on location, just trying to focus on the schools themselves.
WashU:
Pro:
Research powerhouse - seems like pretty much unlimited options for students
Administration? - My tour guide and a few other students I spoke with on interview day told me about how the school had supported them ($$ and otherwise) to pursue their interests in medicine. One girl got funded to go to a bunch of work in China. Seemed really cool.
National/historical reputation - I know this isn't the most important thing, but it matters at least some to me.
Barnes-Jewish/Stl Childrens - awesome hospitals. I'm interested in peds and IM and it's cool that they have such good programs there.
P/F
Small class size
Really good interview day
Medical campus
Possible pro:
Curriculum is pretty traditional. They seem to emphasize building a super strong foundation which I like. Could also be a con because its 2 years instead of 1.5.
Cons:
Gunner vibe? I personally didn't feel this at all but have heard some rumors online.
Not the most diverse class (esp in comparison to NYU)
Nerdy? Again what I've heard on the internet. Not sure I think that's a bad thing but w/e.
NYU:
Pro:
Bellevue is awesome, probably a great place to train
Pretty good research opportunities
Improving reputation? Not sure how to judge it in comparison to WashU or other schools in the same range.

Super diverse class
1.5 yr curriculum leaves more time for research/residency app prep and such after clerkships. I've heard that extra time can be really nice to have.
Cons:
Huge ranking surge over past few years makes it really hard for me to judge how well regarded NYU is. Obviously it's a great school, not doubting that. Just can't figure out how to compare it.
Seems like fewer research opportunities relatively
No real medical campus, kind of just in the city
Overall, I think I know more about WashU than NYU. Wondering if people have other pros/cons about either of these schools (particularly NYU) and how you guys all think they compare. For someone interested in academic medicine, how much does the difference in prestige matter (or does it not)? Thanks - yall rock.
