I'm still on this waitlist, and I guess I'm just curious as to what's up with it. Anyone heard anything? Anyone know how it works? Thanks a bundle.

i'm still on it too- but wow, you're already in cornell? would you rather go to wash u?

Yes, I don't know. Its all in my quest to make things more complicated. Both are great places, but I can't shake the appeal of staying in the Midwest. I'm actually flying out to NY this weekend to ascertain whether I can be comfortable in the city. Its just something you have to get used to, but I just don't know why it worries me so much. It will likely be a blast, and I will likely end up at Cornell. I simply love the school. 😍

which is your preference? like- if u like cornell will u still go to wash u if admited?

I'll have a better idea after I get back from New York. I'm a Midwesterner, not an East Coaster, so I would lean towards WashU, which is hard because Cornell is pretty cool. I hate big decisions, but at least I have options. Gotta knock on wood for that. Do you know how the WashU system works? Standard deal?

Well, after receiving correspondence from a member of the admissions council, the future for the current waitlistees looks bleak. He said that they have completed admissions activity since May 15, and that the class is currently full. He said that he personally does not see much movement from here on. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but just keeping everyone up to date.

Cornell it is.

God does not play dice with the universe.😎

who was this? i just heard that they "just started" movement and expect much more throughout may and june... conflicting sources...

Hi, I received this correspondence from Dean Dodson, the big man himself. I believe the other claims are based on last years movement. However, it looks as if this year, there are more people retaining their acceptance to Wash U. Disappointing.

There has to be some movement. I doubt its anything like Stanford or the like with NO movement. How did you get a hold of Dodson anyway? I guess I'm too intimidated to contact a Dean directly.

its not that there was no movement. even on this board you can see a couple people who got in off the waitlist. what i was told is that movement after the May 15th deadline is done and the class is full. now if more people drop their acceptance, which they should only have one of by now....which is possible because they may get off the waitlist at a different school, then of course they will accept more. But as of now the class is full, and the deadline for picking one school has passed, which is why I think he said there will be very little movement from here on.
Not trying to bring people's hopes down, just trying to keep valid info from the source available. Good luck to everyone.

Thanks for the info, mandinga.

ok so i am out on the golf course and of course i have my phone off so that i don't bother anyone including myself. after the round i get back to the car and check my messages and there is one from dr. dodson asking me to call him back, but by the time i got to my phone it was 5:30 and my call to him was answered by his messaging service. so now i am soooooo anxious and wondering what the call was for. i'm keeping my fingers crossed. does Wash U call people accepted off the waitlist or do they email or snaim mail it? probably not going to sleep tonight if i don't get a call in the next 30 minutes.

ooooh man. it's probably an acceptance off the waitlist! i eagerly await my phone calls ever since may 15th but it's always been those annoying salespeople or my mom from work. the white hairs i'm cultivating during this waiting process is spreading... hehe

Yup they call - good luck!

Got the call just this afternoon. They said I was one of the last ones receiving an acceptance. I'm not quite sure what that meant, but it felt good. Good luck to the rest of you and take care!

🙂

i was able to talk to dr. dodson later this evening and it was an acceptance off the waitlist so i am extrememly pumped as wash u was my first choice. thanks for the help

Hey congrats guys.
I am going to be a WashU med student as well. I am in St. louis now doing a summer lab rotation for the combined program so if any of you are in town drop me a line. Otherwise see you in August

congrats on the acceptances guys!

Wash U Class of 2007 unite!!

I just got an e-mail wanting to know whether I was still interested in Wash U. I withdrew months ago, so I'm not sure why I was contacted, but bureaucratic silliness aside, I assume it means that they're not done admitting people yet. My fingers are crossed for those of you still waiting.

Yea, I got the same email and told them that I withdrew. Another spot for anyone who wants it!

Hmmmm, I got the email too. I wonder if they really mean to offer acceptances to us, if we want them, or they're just surveying everyone again like they did twice already with the written responses we had to send in for the waitlist.

I don't think they'd be asking if there weren't spots available (really, that would just be cruel). They might be contacting a bunch of people for 1 or 2 spots, which IS dodgy (but then again, this is the same school that sent me a thin envelope a few weeks after my interview, a letter telling me to expect another letter ...) but I do think it's a sign that SOMEONE's about to come off the WL.

Good point, VW. I do believe there will be movement at some point off the waitlist, but I just wasn't sure if this email was indicative of a specific spot available at the moment. You all interivewed with Dean Chung, didn't you? Maybe she's just surveying all her interviewees without looking up who withdrew already.

just to contribute,

I did not get one of those emails (and I did not withdraw) (yet?) so I don't know what that means ... and I interviewed with Dean Monolo...

mystic_b might be onto something. KB and I interviewed with Dean Chung (on the same day, I think), so this might be something she decided to do on her own. Nonetheless, I don't think anyone would bother if there weren't a spot open. Good luck to you!

I'm also a non-Dean Chung interviewee, and like vscarlet, I received no such email.

Yo people, I got one of those emails today as well. Today was just a pretty insane day overall for me, but let me explain. I responded to the email, because WashU was pretty high on my list (I'm really leaning towards Penn but money is always an issue...who knows), and about a half hour after responding I got a call from Dr. Dodson. Caught me really offguard because I was pipetting all kinds of stuff in lab and I thought it was my girlfriend calling. I'm not used to getting phone calls like that. It was an acceptance call! So I was like whoa, that is pretty cool. 😱

Then, I go on to more work in my lab, and I decide to call a friend about a half hour later. I was talking to him for a little while, and then I get another call coming in...I figured it was definitely my girlfriend this time. No! It turned out to be Dean White from Hopkins! Craziness!! Both calls within an hour of each other! Anyway, thought you people would wanna know that. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm going to think about all of this tomorrow, my head hurts right now. But in either case, there will be 2 more waitlist spots opening up, so that's good news for all those waiting. I will expedite my part as much as I can, cause I know how much it sucks to wait. I thought I had this all figured out...until today...I'm just confused now.

Cheers yo,

Chooch

Wow!! 😱 Congrats Chooch, you waitlist stud you. 😉 Are you still planning on going to Penn or do you think these acceptances will change your plans?

Yea, chooch! What an exciting day!

Let me and Rapid know if you wind up at Hopkins with us. 😀 Also, I can give you the handles of some current Hopkins SDNers if you have questions.

I am a non-Dean Chung interviewee, and I received an email today. Anyone else?

hey guys! i just got off the waitlist yesterday (i didn't get the mystery e-mail). i'm actually trying to decide b/w wash u and the school i was already set on going to (tulane). i didn't really get a chance to interact with very many students when i was there and i was wondering if you guys could pm me some of your impressions of wash u. specifically the vibe you got from the students and their level of happiness. sorry to interrupt the thread! good luck to everyone waiting, i hope you all hear good news soon 🙂 ! it's really exciting and also a little bit scary when dr. dodson finally calls you, especially since he called me at 7:30 in the morning!
