I was wondering what would be better. this last summer I did research in the organic chemistry department and I have the opportunity to continue. I am
getting kinda burnt on it and would like to try volunteer in the hospital
instead. I don't have time for both.
Should I stick with the research this next year for the sake of
doing something for an extened period of time, and thus showing dedication? Or should I volunteer in the hospital for the next year(which I would rather do)? I apply for med-school in a year.

volunteer. why do something that makes you unhappy because you think it would please somebody else (such as an ADCOM)?

a summer of research is enough to give you a taste of what it's like and some good interview fodder. but if you're not headed down the md/phd route there's no reason to devote more time to it if you don't like it.

It would be best to do both, but if you only want to do one, volunteer at the hospital because clinical exposure is a big plus!
