Hi! So I need personal opinions on which school to go to. I will be a first generation doctor and so I’ve only worked to get to the acceptance. I don’t know much about how to pick the best school for me. I know I really resonate with the emphasis on the whole body as a DO. I recently had someone tell me that as an MD, nothing will stop me from treating my patients holistically if that’s what I want to do. It just got me thinking.
WCUCOM Pros :
p/f quartile system
attendance is not mandatory
townhouse options for housing
doing my undergraduate here, so i have strong ties to the school
rotations are available at my hometown
Cons :
more expensive
worried about residency match
UMMC Pros :
cheaper
affiliated hospital
only level 1 trauma center in mississippi
bench top research opportunities
Cons :
graded
mandatory attendance
Here is the kicker. I have an acceptance at WCUCOM, and I’m tabled at UMMC. Tabled means I have to fill out another application in December and they save seats for those who are tabled to get accepted and fill the last 15 or so seats. If you don’t move off the tabled list, you’re waitlisted. So my question is, should I holdout for a seat at UMMC or feel good about my acceptance at WCU? I love WCUCOM but I don’t want to worry about not being able to match. For reference, my goals right now are emergency med or internal med. I know this could change though.
