Its pretty obvious that theres no real lack when comparing DO's versus MD's.

Only that the majority of people dont know about osteopathic med. This is pretty much cuz of the media focusing on MDs rather than DO's just cuz most people already associate medicine with MD's. Look at Patch Adams, Gross Anatomy, or shows like Doogie Howser, and any other movie with docs in it. They are all MD's. Even those late night "increase the size of ur special male anatomical part by 200 percent" commercials are all hosted/sposnored by MDs.

I propose that we have a media blitz about osteopathic medicine. Just one good movie with a DO in it, or mentioning the DO philosophy would do more for spreading the philosophy than... um.... ya, well.. it would do a lot.

michael moore should do a documentary on it

There is a DO in a movie...go see super size me. It got a lot of industry buzz lately.

With that being said I would love to see some school or (gasp) the AOA actually give a little money to discovery health or TLC for one of those medical shows.

I think it would be cool to follow some 3rd and 4th years students in allopathic and osteopathic through some of their rotations, making sure to include both....maybe a hospital rotation in NYC/Chicago/Philly where the overlap is usually common.

(if you want a cool view of this done about 10 years or so ago check out nova's havard medical school special from the 80's/90's)

I totally agree. I would love to see any one of those discovery channel shows featuring some DO's

DO's have appeared quite a few times on DHC. I think most people probably don't know the difference because they don't see a difference.

Hannibal Lecter, DO

"I couldn't quite make it into allopathic medicine so I ate the admission commitee's livers with fava beans."

Has anyone seen the new HBO series DEADWOOD? I have often thought that the "DOC" character should be outed as a pioneering D.O. Maybe everyone could canvas HBO to do that.... He is the coolest character in the show.

There are DO residents on "Trauma: Life in the ER". The problem is that you never see their degree because it's only on their labcoat.

The doctor in Spiderman 2 is a D.O..........ok I am not sure if he is or not, but he sure does give Peter Parker the holistic approach. Even discusses his dreams with him.

Heres a little known fact: The Doctor in the Fugitive was a DO, or at least the real life doctor the story was based on was a DO. I have the movie though and i dont ever recall seeing those two letters anywhere in it....

Probably for the best though, considering in real life he was found guilty and I think he died in jail.

LoL..i was actually trying really hard to see if he was a MD or DO...but there was nothing on his labcoat...not even his name

Patch Adams

Although the doctor is an MD, Patch Adams definitely shows what a DO is.

A joke? (Sorry, but it was too easy.)
