We number one!

Expect to see an increase in the number of applicants for ds.

This is the case every year.

Isn't dentistry often at or near the top of these kinds of lists?

Pretty sure he is being sarcastic. I don't think the number of people applying each year changes much. I can't find doc's excel sheet that shows that.

It's a bit dated but here is something from 2009 from the ADEA website.

I was very wrong.

I wish I could find statistics after 2009 but everything just stops there. Unless someone wants to aggregate all the stats from the ADEA books we pretty much can only go off a year by year basis on enrollment. No doubt there are more applicants per year though.

Probably worth pointing out from those figures that from 1990 to 2009 there was a 25% increase in matriculating dental students. That is 25% in 20 years or roughly 1.25% per year. US population growth over that same period of time was about 20%. However, dental school applicants increased by 250% :nailbiting:

Glad I got in now rather than later.

There is also many more dental schools today than there was in the 90s and early 2000s

Do you want to recalculate?

Hmm Mathematician at #1...

US News is a pretty reputable source. They've been ranking schools for a while now. Their best job ranking cant be that bad.

Yeah, they link their methodology on that first page, but I don't particularly care to read it. Careercast is the one I always see quoted by Forbes and co.

I don't think it matters much, though.

Do you want to recalculate?

Was looking at the wrong row and meant 150%... woops. 🙂 I calculated based on # of DAT but meant to use the applicant numbers. It's still a huge increase though from 5,123 to 12,210 is a 138% increase.

However, the number of re-applicants has increased dramatically since 1990, and it seems that first time applicants have increased at a more normal pace of roughly 31% since 1990.
