What are some websites to buy plane tickets off of? I need to buy Chicago to Erie, PA.. and Ive only flown twice in my life so far.. once I bought off Expedia, the second was a school conference so they bought the tickets.. thanks for the help 🙂

If you go to kayak.com it will pull up fares from about 4 of those sites. Plus definitely check the airlines sites too. American Airlines now has guaranteed lower rates so if you get it for $100 on Expedia it's likely to be $98 at the most on aa.com.

^^great thanks guys!! and also are there any direct flights to erie? i can't seem to find any.. the only ones i found go to philly first.. which is way out of the way..

In addition, I went from Detroit to Erie.

I'm actually not sure. I don't think my husband could find any. He ended up having to go from Dallas to Detroit then to Erie.

I heard on the raido that its cheapest if you buy your plane tickets on a wednesday..I dont know why, or if its true... but just some more info

I've heard that too. It's supposed to be Wednesday after midnight so really Tuesday/Wednesday. I don't know if it works or not because I didn't find cheaper fares that way.

haha maybe i'll look into that then! i guess its okay then to just switch planes.. i just get nervous about missing connecting flights.. if that happend id have NO IDEA what to do (reallyreally inexperiences flyer!)! haha. and id be more scared about missing it on the way there then home, since home really has no timeline.. but lecom sure does! i will try to book my flight this week or so.. wee! gettin excited and its still a month + away..

When you get a ticket, check the schedule to make sure it is not the last flight of the day. That way, even if you miss it, they will put you on the next plane. When I was flying to Kirksville, MO to interview at KCOM, I was flying from NYC, was supposed to change the plane in Minneapolis, and then in Kansas City. Guess what, my flight from NYC was delayed for one hour. It was not a problem in Minneapolis, because they just put me on the next available plane, but it was a HUGE problem in Kansas City, because I missed the last plane going to Kirksville. I could rent a car and drive, but I just got my licence last month and do not feel comfortable driving so far. I ended up taking a cab and paying a fortune to go 180 miles from Kansas City to Kirksville. Anyway, even if you do miss a plane, I am sure the admissions will understand and let you reschedule or something.
Good luck.

You paid for a cab from KC to Kirksville? 😱 Dang!! You're more than welcome to fund my med school education. 😛

It's not like I have money falling out of my pockets, but what was I supposed to do: rent a car and possibly get into accident ( I know, I should have gotten my licence long time ago, but I have been living in NYC all this time), or turn around and go back to NYC? I really loved the school, was accepted there, and is probably going there next year. I am just looking at it as money spent getting into med school (you know, MCAT, applications, etc). It was really worth at the end.

I was just teasing you. 😉 It is shocking though because I can only imagine how much that must have cost. You made a good choice to get to your interview and it paid off. Much much better than getting into an accident!! 👍

Hi Guys,
I don't think there are many if any direct flights to Erie so you need to get to a Hub like philly to go to Erie. Also due to the fine winter weather in this part of the country, you might want to consider going early the day before in case a flight gets canceled / delayed. Not that it ever happens. Good Luck on your interview!

From Chicago to Erie, the cheapest way to go is Amtrak.

Folks,

When you buy airline tickets from Cheap Tickets or Expedia your contract is with the seller rather than the airline. This might be a problem in the event of cancellations.

Furthermore the "service" people who work for these companies are often in foreign countries and they have no clue about American geography.

If I were you and was going to the interview of my life I would contract directly with the airline and I would leave myself plenty of slack time to get to the interview. This goes triple if the med school is in a city that gets tons of snow like Erie or Chicago.

Obnoxious

I trave a lottttttt...Im like a little nomad Obnoious dad is right..but what I usually do is use orbitz or something to see which airline has the cheapest flights, with the times that would work best for me. Then I go through the airline. Personally, I like continental and I will never ever ever fly US or United again. But anyway..just an idea

Using Orbitz or one of the other brokers is a good idea to find out about schedules and relative prices.

At some time or another I have been disappointed by just about every airline. I've sworn off most of them only to come back later. What can you do?
