I dont know if anyone on this forum could answer this but, is a one credit lab class, like a lab for bio, weighed less than a 3 credit class (say like bio lecture)? I am trying to figure out my cumm gpa and cant seem to understand why the schools gpa is less than what I am coming up with.

I know this may vary from school to school, but if anyone has an inkling of a thought, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

well if you want us to calculate it you need post your data, otherwise i would suspect that if it is a transfer credit, sometimes schools do not recognise the same amount for various classes.

otherwise, you have an error most likely.

No, no. They arent transfer credits. I am not going to post my grades on SDN (I dont want people making comments 🙂 nor do I want people here to calculate my grades. I am just wondering if schools weigh a 1 credit lab class less than a 3 credit lecture class. And, I am talking about the school that I am attending right now.

For example, I got an A in bio and a B+ in physics lab, are they both counted the same when tallied up into your gpa? I mean, if I need to post my grades, then I will but I would rather not.

they weigh it based on the credits.

example:

bio lecture 3 credits, A
bio lab 1 credit, B

3X4.00 = 12
1X3.00 = 3

12+3 = 15

15 / 4 = 3.75 <-- CUM GPA

and likewise if you are on a 5 point for an A system instead of a 4 point, or whatever, change accordingly.

this is something that is great to plot out on excel, keep track of your grades very accurately, know your gpa's, know what grades you need to get a certain cum gpa, etc. use excel, excel is your friend (or linux versions are great too - and free) i really suggest you do that because for med school, you will need to separate out your science gpa from the other classes, or you may get credits from other schools so you will have multiple gpa's, and a number of other reasons... but... yea... put it on there if you havent already...
