Hi there! I'm new to these forums - seemed to be many helpful responses so I thought I could get some perspective on my situation.

I started my undergrad with preprofessional in mind, taking several science courses and doing quite well in them (A's and B's). However I had a change of heart, and switched my major to business. I went on to get my degree in finance, and continued on to get my MBA.

Now, I'm strongly considering returning to school to pick up the rest of my prereqs for pharmacy school (only lack about 5 classes). However, I'm concerned a few bad marks I received in non prereq courses might reflect poorly on my application. My grades declined when I went into business, due to lack of focus and interest, and resulted in a few F's. I was able to retake the classes and get A's in them however.

My overall GPA in undergrad was about 3.25, and my GPA in grad school was 3.4. However my GPA for my prereqs was fairly high, probably around 3.8.

My question is this - if I get high grades in my remaining prereqs and do well on my PCAT, will this overcome my poor marks in non prereqs? Will the fact I still managed to get my bachelor's and a Masters help overshadow this as well?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

The admissions committee guy explained this in another thread. Let me quote him for you:

In short, use your personal statement to identify the concerns you had early in your academic career. Without doing so, you leave the reasons open for the interpretation of the committee (which you don't want to do). Provide letters of recommendation that show your aptitude, maturity, dedication or otherwise mute what issues you previously had.

I was asking him about old problems on my transcripts. I think the advice would apply to you as well.
