So I had an interview recently for Creighton's program except for one thing:

It was certainly NOT an interview.

I prepared quite a bit for every type of questions one could imagine. I was ready to talk about myself, my story, my motivations, my application. I really wanted to show Creighton that I was a fit for their program. The only problem is that, during the interview, I was not asked a single question about myself or my app. Not one! Instead I was asked if I had any questions, and for roughly a half hour I asked everything you could possible ask about the school. I was prepared for 5-10 minutes of Q&A, but never did I expect that I'd spend the entire "interview" interviewing the interviewer! Did anyone have a similar experience?? I'm somewhat flustered as I've never experienced (or even heard of) an interview like this.

Pinhi- I like your optimism. I hope you get acceptances this year :xf:

Perhaps they wanted to see if you would take initiative and start a conversation.

Perhaps they wanted to see if you would take initiative and tell them about yourself. Some of these interviews are like a mind game you just have to take charge and make sure they hear what you want them to know.

I had that thought, too, but then I remembered that this is dental school admissions, not investment banking.

lol, i'm sure it was fine and everyone found it to be awkward.

DUUUDE that is Weird. so they didnt even ask why dentistry question?

I have a creighton interview coming up and is that what i should expect? just asking questions? wow that is weird

Literally didn't ask a single thing about me. No "Why dentistry?" Not even "Why Creighton?" Nothing. Bizarre.

do u know if any other people who interviewed with u had the same format?
But im not too surprised because interview is not so important at creighton. Are u a Jesuit? or come from a Jesuit school by any chance?

I'm not sure what the experience of others has been. Why even do an interview if it's going to be like this? I'm neither a Jesuit, nor did I go to a Jesuit school. I'm flummoxed by this, seriously.

This is a good reminder to have questions ready. I'd hope to never have this same style of interview, but if you can pull it off without extreme awkwardness then those are some smooth chat skills you have going on.

Had the exact same thing happen to me at UNLV. It was weird dude. The interviewer gave me one question that I barely got to answer before we were interrupted. Then he just said I had great stats, test scores, etc, and asked if I had any questions about the school. It was a "wtf" moment for sure.

You sounded more than prepared. My only caution to those preparing for interviews is don't try TOO hard. So many applicants run into interviews trying to tell interviewers everything that they think they want to hear. In reality, after interviewing several hundred applicants, they just want to get to know you. They get tired of asking the same bullsh*t questions over and over again. Why dentistry, why the location, why are you a good applicant? Some interviewers just want to engage in a interesting conversation. So go ahead and prepare for why the school and why dentistry, but after that use your social skills and find a common ground. Then just shoot the ****.
I know some interviews don't allow you to do this, because they constantly ask you questions, but when you find the opportunity to talk about something besides dentistry and the application process, do it.

looks like Dr. Norton interviewed you in New Mexico!

My current job interview was like this. I know it is not a dental school interview, but they liked me on paper and they pretty much decided to give me the job before the interview. I did not know that at the time and had to wait for the acceptance call.

I am assuming you have good stats and worked really hard on your application. Maybe the interview is just a formality and they know they want to accept you and were trying to make sure you had every opportunity to accept/like them. Oh and I always hear that in interviews have nothing to do with WHAT you say but HOW you say it. So from that point, it seems like the interview would serve its purpose.

I am interested to see if you get an acceptance on Dec. 1st. I feel like you are going to be pleasantly surprised. Lets hope we all are!

actually, I forgot where I heard this, but Creighton has a reputation of not putting too much emphasis on the interview. I think the school is naturally more interested in pure stats / ECs than anything else

I have an interview with Dr Norton next week at Creighton. Im super nervous and its my first interview. Any advice about Dr Norton other than be prepared to ask him questions?

Dr. Norton's a great guy! Just be yourself and carry out a conversation. He loves basketball and has a phD in Anatomy!

maybe you should have asked for the reasoning behind the role reversal?

It ranks among the most apt of the interviews given; you just failed to realize it.

I've had two interviews so far. One at Case and the other at Uconn. I was interviewed twice at case and in both interviews i wasn't asked a single question. I felt I really expressed who I was and why dentistry in my application and possibly this is why, if they've read my application they should know. Also, there are two reasons for an interview, one is for the school to see who you are and the other is for you to see who the school is. Many times you can notice a shift in the interview where it changes from interviewing to selling you on the school. This is always a good sign. I'm glad i didn't get asked questions, it allowed me to direct the conversation to some of the strengths on my application, and it made the interview more of a conversation than a stress. no questions=good thing
