I took the DAT couple weeks ago....Did anyone have weird notation on the GCHEM portion of the DAT? Specifically when they ask for oxidation numbers or any alpha/beta reactions.

Notations like CaCl2 or anything with the number out in front or if maybe the overall charge of a molecule is out in front instead being in the upper right corner.

On a beta reaction I saw a chemical equation and each element had 3 numbers out front...for example (totally making this up but...) 14 7 2 N. So mass number, atomic number and the third number (made up 2 in this case). What is that third number?!? 😕

If you look back on the past threads there are about 50 posts on that specific question.

My guess would be charge. Therefore the three numbers would alone one to determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons. But like I said, it’s just a guess.

Many people have been complaining of crazy formatting on these types of questions. I guess I was lucky not to come across it during my test.

the google search doesnt work so well..i couldnt find bubkes. so whats the answer?

I had the question on my test and took it up with the ADA. All they could offer me was an opportunity to retake the test within 30 days after taking it. The representative said that they are still debating what to do with the question. I am surprised they are still administering that test.
