I'm asking for a friend. Usually I'm pretty good at gauging chances and advice, but his case has me a bit stumped. Goro, I summon your wisdom.
He's a non-traditional, white, 28-year-old student who finished a state college with a 2.4 GPA. He since decided he wanted to be a doctor. He took all pre-requisites at a community college, and got a 4.0 in those last 40-50 credit hours. However, this has only brought his GPA up to 2.7 or so.
After heavy preparation, he scored a 517 on the mcat. This guy is very smart. As an incoming OMS-2, I believe he can succeed, for what it's worth.
He spent the last 4 years working patient care in a caretaker role.
He's applied very broadly, but i would expect his 2.7 GPA to be poison, despite the upward trend (that they're community college credits is worrying too).
My best advice to him would be a to do an MBS, or perhaps an SMP. He's pretty much already been doing a post-bac, kinda. Also, what would you say, and what are his current chances?
