I posted a similar question over in the pre-dental forum so to those of you who saw both, sorry for the double post.

I'm just curious what everyone thinks of splitting up pre-med type courses. My work schedule takes me away from home for 3-6 months at a time (followed up about the same amount of time off) which makes it real hard to take classes consistently. I've got a Bachelors of Aeronautical Science with a GPA of 3.79 but virtually no science classes (had one semester of physics).

Because of my schedule I've been playing with the idea of taking one semester of classes (biology, chemistry, any other misc classes that I can) and then taking a semester off (back to work), and then the next semester (3rd) taking the other half of the classes and so on until I've got most of the pre-reqs done.

Anybody have any advice/thoughts on this route?

Thanks,

I think non-trads jump through crazy hoops all the time to get where they are going. That line-up sounds pretty darn good as you can focus totally on your grades when you are in school. Many of us in here had to work at the time of our classes and that can be tricky.

My only reservation would be on nailing down your schedule. Are you in control of when you "ship out" or could someone tell you it is time to go when you are two weeks shy of finishing your semester? As long as you will be allowed to finish your classes and NEVER drop out, I would say I don't see a problem with your plan.

Good luck to you!

Thanks,

That could work, but make sure you do what you need to to get A's. Packing too many classes in a semester can be risky.

Thanks for the input guys, my employer is extremely pro-education and very flexible in general. As long as nothing crazy was to happen, finishing a semester shouldn't be a problem.
My biggest concern was splitting up glasses that build on each other (ie Chem 1 and Chem 2 or Biology 1 and Biology 2). I took a French class (French 101) at the local college when I was in high school and then 3 years later I had found out for my degree I needed a year of a foreign language. I was on the fast track to be done with school (I took a round about way of getting there in the first place.. joined the military, went to Iraq, etc..) so I took French 102... it was not pretty and I don't want a repeat. (I ended up with-drawing from the class and then retaking it a semester later as pass/fail).

As for over loading myself with classes; do you guys think that it would look bad on admissions apps if I only took 2-3 classes per semester?
