So apparently my provost alerted me at the last minute that I need to drop my chem class as there is ONE student below the minimum. I'm distraught and pissed, and I'm fighting to keep the class. But if I fail, I wondering if I should follow the various options my professors said I could do. These are: A.) Take the course over summer at a very expensive school;this school is the only one that my school allows to take their course with the credit being counted on my school's GPA, B.) Take it somewhere else over the summer with the course counted as credit but not toward my school's GPA, or C.) wait, and take the course next semester, causing me to take Orgo senior year. What's everyone's opinion?(Note, this includes the lab with the course for all options*).

A little background info. My school made a mistake freshman year, and I wasn't allowed to take Chem/ lab and Bio/lab freshman year. Fall semester, I got sick( a lot of documentation proving it) and I had to drop the Chem class and lab.

When are you taking your MCAT? Are you applying for medical school the summer after your senior year or a year after that?

sorry bro. hopefully you can still get it scheduled this semester. i lean towards (A) over (B) cause nobody wants to take orgo senior year

Probably the year after that.

Yeah, I have no clue wtf taking it somewhere other than Vanderbilt causes. My professor said that they don't count the other schools in Nashville towards my school's GPA. So I don't know how that translates to my GPA, meaning I would have a separate one towards my regular one. I do feel that A is the best. Taking orgo senior sounds ******ed. Though with the credit sheet I have on my person, it does show I could take Bio chem and orgo together. But this sheet from my advisor shows taking it with physics. Oh yeah, could you post the picture of the alcohol on here, it seems fitting?

option C was the one that ended with orgo being senior year it seems?

Is this a class that's required for your major? Because if you take it at a university that your school doesn't accept credits from, then that could potentially be a problem (as in you could have to retake it to fulfill major requirements?).

Taking orgo at a different school would essentially cause it to be counted as a kind of "transfer" credit at your current school. As long as your current school will 100% count the orgo course you take at a different school towards orgo credit you'll be okay. The only thing is, it won't count towards your institution GPA. However, it WILL count towards your AMCAS calculated GPA. So in the end it does not make a difference at all since med schools are seeing your AMCAS GPA anyway.

Find the syllabus for the orgo course you want to take and show it to a chem department advisor at your school to make sure you can get credit for the course.

@terp720 ...I'm like Fox News in that you shouldn't fact check me unless you want to be severely disappointed. :chicken:

This. Couldn't have said it any better.

As long as it's counted towards your major, it doesn't matter whether it's in your institutional GPA or not.

Goes well with grapefruit, apparently.

I mean... it wouldn't be my first choice as a side dish for Black Label, but grapefruit is delicious. Two things that definitely don't go together are bacon and shrimp.
