Well got my applications all in and paid today.

Now I just have to sit and wait...

below are my vital stats. Bolded are the programs I am most interested in.

My main question is how long people with similar applications waited to hear from interviews. 2 attendings recently told me completely opposite things! One had no interview offers till late October and panicked, the other had offers within a week!

My only big blemish on my record is I was originally in an MD/PHD program but quit to pursue a pure MD as my research was going nowhere.

Electives all Os (pulm, CC, Pain)
Have an away planned.
Letters to choose from a pain doc, head of surg, head of anesthesia, head of psych, cochair of IM.

Anyone have any comments? And thanks in advance

You'll be just fine.

The chips will fall where they may.

Enjoy 4th year and crack open one of these.

Those pics pretty much sum up my plans for this weekend!

Well, plus compulsively checking e-mail and which programs DLed which files....

Hey WC-

I have VERY similar scores and our lists overlap on about 50% of the ones you listed. Stony Brook is my home program; holler at me if you have any Q's.

I'll let you know if I hear anything on my end - keep me posted!

Awesome. I will keep you informed if an interview comes my way and we can compare.

You are locked and loaded!!!

Your part is now out of your hands. So relax, enjoy, and let the interview offers roll in.

I kid you not, interviews will seem like a breeze compared to what you have done.

My point...you are good to go!

i interviewed at many of those place and have similar stat, let me tell you my thoughts. only other variable is what med school you come from.

SLR you should have no prob matching at...problem is long work hours daily until around 6-8 when not on call, plus 4 calls per month, also they provide housing which is pretty good if you are single/low requirements but otherwise they act like they are doing you a huge favor providing you with a closet for 2 grand per month. good regional though, and good connections as faculty are pretty prestigious. also pain program in house. 2 weekends off guaranteed.
modern ORs with electronic anesthesia record keeping. loss of leadership recently.

Georgetown. Good, small program overall. Very busy OR, longer days to 6pm typical, many attendings dont care about teaching, but some are great. good name, good fellowship placement. older ORs, typical large academic hospital. MANY crnas who sit in on resident report and activities - this gets annoying. CRNAs can be seen doing crani's, really testing the limits of their ability, while the supervising MDA is in the call room.

GW. Did not interview here, knew a couple people who chose this over Gtown when they had the choice, unclear why.

SUNY brooklyn. Good overall. Apply advanced only as the cat year is tough with 3 months surg, 3 months icu, 3 months medicine. something like that. Large program, lost a lot of fellowships inc pain, good chair, wierd vibe at the interview - res overworked?, that being said probably better hours than SLR and arguably more prestigious, however in brooklyn vs manhtattn which has pluses and minuses. Academic program vs SLR more or less privately run.

NYU huge turnoff. seemed like a huge medical factory with the OR being on the 10th floor or something. just wierd. that being said it offered lots of fellowships but seemed to lack the personal attention of smaller programs, residents seemed to just be working, going home, not caring about learning. better schedule than both suny brook or slr though, but seemingly too overly academic and factory-like for me. A bigger/less personal version of the Gtown program.

Guinness? Philistines. This stuff out of the can tastes as good as Guinness on draft, and on draft tastes like the Guinness does in Ireland.

good choice bro. murphy's stout is good.

a bit milder than Guinness though...

i cook with Guinness sometime. you should try making a stew from Guinness + beef stock... put big chunks of lamb meat in the broiler at 450 for a few minutes enough just to brown...stir-fry some carrots, mushrooms, onions, leek, dill, celery, a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste....mixed and simmer for about 3-4 hours....braising the meat a bit more...serve with an irish soda bread. really good on snow days.

just submitted today, 45 programs. Due to the way my schedule was i was unable to get a LOR from an anesthesiologist. lets hope for the best.

i hope to see some of you guys on the interview trail, say hi ill buy you a beer as i dont drink.
