Hi
I have 2 questions......

First, if i can apply for the NBDE part1 with my Provisional Degree Certificate (PDC)??

Second, how good is the "Wells review of Basic and Clinical Dentistry : Basic sciences" for part 1 prep??

Thanks for ue feedback in advance!!
🙄

hi,
u can apply for NDBE part 1 with ur PDC.u need only a general evaluation report from ECE for writing part 1.so PDC is enough.but most universities require a course by course evaluation report for IDP program.for that i think u need the original degree certificate.i think so,i am not sure .u can go to the ECE site [ece.org ]for detailed info.
i don't have the answer for ur 2nd question.:-(

Thanks dentek.......i'm planning to give the NBDE part 1 in december and as i'll not receive my degree cert in time, i was a bit apprehensive.
Somewhere on this forum, i also read that the part 1 format might be changed from 2004 onwards (more clinical case based)!!

Thanks again

Hi tantrik03, where did you read that? which thread? I want to check on that.

About the Wells review book, well you don't to rely only on that book. It's extremely sumarized. But overall it at least mentions most of the topics. It's questions are a pretty good practice method.

Hi meggs
The NBDE part 1 changes have been posted on the DENTAL FORUM....
Here is the post..........and thanks for ur input on the wells review!!

According to the recent issue of ASDA News, the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinatins (JCNDE) is changing the cost of NBDE Part I, its format, and make it computerized at Prometric Test Center like the DAT!

Current NBDE Part I:
Cost: $125
Format: straight forward questions (memorization and regurgitate facts), four distinctive sections
Availability: twice/year (July and December)

Starting as early as early fall this year (~September 2003):
Cost: $100
Format: straight forward questions (memorization and regurgitate facts), four distinctive sections
Availability: anytime you want on the computer

Starting as early as summer 2004:
Cost: more than $100, but less than $125
Format: Pilot COMPREHENSIVE (interdisciplinary situations and case studies to test caandidates abilities to apply information in clinical settings), no more four distinctive sections, sounds like the USMLE Step I format)
Availability: anytime you want on the computer

Make long story short, I'm glad I'm taking this thing this July before all this changes are being made! For those of you in the Class of 2006, by the time you take the Part I after your second year in 2004, you may be the first to tackle the "COMPREHENSIVE" format on the NBDE Part I!

🙄 😱
