As long as I live comfortably, without having to worry about making ends meet, i'm fine with sub 100 highest salaries. Plus, money isn't the only reason for people to want to be dentists.👍

Ummm yes it is. It may very from person to person, but it is about the money. There are too many easier ways to help people (and have a more lasting effect) than medicine. If you weren't gonna get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, I guarantee nobody goes through what we are going through (physically, emotionally, financially).

I call bullcrap on this. So you are saying you would go $300,000 in debt with no realistic way to pay it off for a $30,000 a year job? Give me a break. I am sure you love dentistry (as do I, I honestly believe I will have more fun doing this than anything else), but the money is part of the reason why you are doing it. Your part may be smaller than someone else's, but it is still a part of it.

I see a lot of you salivating to get incomes like the ones posted. I have news for you. Someone doesn't just hand over jobs like these to people right out of College / MBA. Before anyone gets an executive posotion, they have already proven themselves multiple times. These guys and gals are seasoned individuals who have survived many trials and tribulations, have successfully climbed the corporate ladder, have gained considerable depth of knowledge of the industry they are in, and arguably are very good at what they do. Most are cut-throat, no bullcorn type of people capable of making multi-million-dollar decisions. Now really, would you have what it takes to sustain a multi-million dollar job like the ones in this post?

Before you say "yes", think carefully now...as a CEO, you are completely responsible for providing a safe and well-structured workplace for these folks (directly and indirectly). If you make the wrong decisions, you are affecting the livelihood of the people (and their families) that depend on your knowledge and abilities.

It is said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Don't forget about the abismal decisions made at Enron. And what about the situation presently happening in many Telecom companies? The telecom industry has lost billions and we've seen thousands of layoffs in lieu of cheaper, outsourced overseas engineers in order to keep themselves afloat. Do you have the stomach to carry out massive layoffs in order to maintain a bottom line? I've seen what these folks do first hand, and I sincerely wouldn't want their job.

Some people say that dentistry is all about the money (otherwise this thread wouldn't have come up). I really don't think so. To me, dentistry will give us the potential to strike a balance between our personal life and meaningful work.

I started junk. The only reason I posted this is because I'm tired of seeing threads in which a surprised person learns that another career according to salary.com makes more than dentistry, like podiatry, or pediatrics, or chaeuffer, or pilot, and feels that it is somehow relavent enough to most of us to post their surprise.

I posted the gigantic list above hoping people would sense the irony, that to anyone with half an ounce worth of useable brain power would realize that we all know there are thousands of jobs that make more money than dentists and thousands that make less, but regardless it's a perfectly well-paying career. Unfortunately, half of the people missed that intention and I've reopened the very can or worms I wish would die.

90ish% of dentists are not salaried. Only the dentists that work in the military, school and for a hospital are salaried (i.e. the lowest paying jobs).
