Hey everybody, there seems to be a lack of threads/posts about Western University in Socal. Probably because it's still so new. But yeah, I wanted an update because I JUST got a phone call today for an interview this Saturday 2/5 but I'm from New Jersey so I have to fly out and arrange everything! (annoying and expensive and last minute!)

I really want to go but I am wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn't go (other than financial of course) or any encouragements to go check it out?

I've been accepted to NYU, waiting to hear the final result back from Tufts THIS WEEK so yeah I'm kind of all over the place. I thought I had no chance with any Cali school I just did it for kicks and because ideally I really did want to go to Cali but I had given the idea up a while ago and I was okay with that but now the opportunity is in front of me. Do I reach out and take it? It's just to check the school out so no big deal right?

What should I do?! I don't want any regrets or "what ifs" in my life! Lol

I am curious about student life outside of academics. It's in the middle of nowhere from what I hear, but it's still close enough to LA etc. right?

Where do the students live? Are there dorms available, apartments, studios near the school. Do you need to commute by bus, car, etc.?

Is it the worth the $500 6 hour flight + additional hotel costs for one night.
And which hotel is decent and closest to the school?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any replies!

What time is your interview? at 7:45am? It sucks to get an invite at the last minute because the flight tickets are so expensive! I heard good things about western but they all say its a new school.

I think you should def go. Have your options open. This year is most likely ur last year to apply since you already got in, so dont worry about the money part, think of it as a investment.

LA is an awesome city, close to pomona, the weather is awesome year around and Hollywood is the best place to party...! oh and western is a good school 😉

My interview is on the same date as yours..Good luck!

I agree that you should think of it as investment. I interviewed and was accepted at Western. It was an awesome school, with great students and faculty. They have awesome facilities. The only downsides in my opinion were the location (Pomona is a hole), but at the same time you're within 45 mins to anything you want (Disneyland, beach, pro sports, etc.), but I would rather live in socal than NY. The other downside is cost, but I believe it would be cheaper than going to NYU (the projected 4-year cost at Western is ~$350,000, and I don't know what NYU's cost is).

Bottom line: I would definitely recommend going. It's an awesome school, and you might regret not going there.

if u really are interested in going to a school in Cali and would go to Western if u are accepted, than definitely go to the interview. The school is great, the city is close the LA so you dont have to try far for fun, including the beach.

They do not have official dorms. They have new apartments right next to school built for students and they tend to run a little more expensive, but im sure u can find a ton of apartments near the school.

Good luck !
